"Cheese Sandwich"
Released 25 years ago today was one of the finest postmodernist works of art ever produced by a North American filmmaker, Freddy Got Fingered. We're not kidding. This movie is everything! Thank you, Tom Green!

This lovely and heartfelt tribute to Hermann Huppen (Jeremiah, The Towers of Bois-Maury), who died in March at the age of 87, is well worth your time today. It was written by Cynthia Rose for @comicsjournal.bsky.social.

Lily, on the birdwatch by the Tennessee River
It's a scary time for folks going into college now. The Economist did a piece just last month on university attendance and the expected job market in four years. Most experts recommend that kids pass on college and go into the trades instead, as carpentry/HVAC/plumbing are harder for AI to replace.
So glad that Svengoolle is showing Parents tonight! Not sure if it's in honor of Mary Beth Hurt who passed in March, but we're still glad to see her again in one of her oddest roles.
No surprise... For Lily's birthday tonight, we went to the picture show! We were planning on seeing a different film, but we caught Soderbergh's newest The Christophers instead after reading @splicedpersonality.bsky.social piece on it this morning and we're glad we did!

This is incredible! Someone found, Gugusse and the Automaton, a long-lost film from the late 1800s by Georges Méliès. It was in a trunk in a garage in Grand Rapids, Michigan! It's now safely at the Library of Congress.

Happy Happy Birthday to the finest scientist, comics writer, and amateur birdwatcher on earth! It's a rainy night here in Tennessee, but we have raspberry cake and fire!
Good piece from back in 2021 by Austin English for @comicsjournal.bsky.social on one of Harvey Pekar's best books from his Dark Horse era, American Splendour: TransAtlantic Comics, which unsurprisingly features tremendous artwork from the late Frank Stack!

Jacques Tourneur's Out of the Past (adapted from Build My Gallows High by Geoffrey Homes).
We're gritting it out until 4am editing the new comic, but we need some help...We feel that we can do this thanks to one of the finest debut albums ever, George Best by The Wedding Present! Better than buckets of java!

A lovely obituary for Frank Stack, which includes heartfelt tributes from some of his former students at the University of Missouri.

NYC friends! We're huge fans of director Frank Perry's work, and his film Last Summer was, until recently, impossible to find. A newly restored version will be presented by screenwriter @larrythek.bsky.social at the Paris Theater on May 3rd, with star Richard Thomas there for Q&A! Don't miss this!
Rest in power, Frank Stack 💙 We cannot count the amount of times we've revisited Pekar and Brabner's Our Cancer Year. Phenomenal work.
We visited the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta on Saturday! An amazing place that we cannot recommend enough. Being this close to Jim Henson's desk gave us the chills.
On the tenth anniversary of Ken Loach's heartbreaking Palme d’Or winning film, I, Daniel Blake, @theguardian.com sat down with Loach and star Hayley Squires to talk about their preparations for the material. Good read! @kenloach16films.bsky.social

We just caught the impressive Isamu Noguchi exhibition at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, and we were floored by these statement pieces...Noguchi, in solidarity with his fellow Japanese-Americans during WW2, voluntarily committed himself to the Posten internment camp in Arizona.
Reminder to submit your work for the highly coveted Ignatz Awards!
We’ll be accepting submissions until May 31st and can’t wait to see what you’ve got!

Hooray! The Wailing is one of our favorite films of the 2010s. We cannot believe it's been ten years since Na Hong-jin has made a feature! Can't wait to see this!!

Took a much needed day off today and checked out the recently opened Wayne White exhibit (Revenge of the Knoxville Girl) at the Knoxville Museum of Art! Tremendous work from the man who created many of the puppets and sets for Pee Wee's Playhouse and Shining Time Station!
An exceptional tribute to the late, great Sam Kieth by Andrew Farago for @comicsjournal.bsky.social!
