My preplanning for all vaccines is to be very hydrated. It seemed to help with my first shingles vaccine a couple weeks ago. I had a sore arm and was a little fatigued, but that was it.

Countries with the kind of healthcare the chronically ill and disabled need don't want to admit us because we would be a 'drain on resources'. Ableism exists everywhere. It's a global problem. So while the US tries to kill us (again) so many are literally stuck.

If your library doesn’t have it, we can figure out a meet up and you can borrow my copy for the month.

Check out the library for basic old cookbooks like Joy of cooking. They have time tested recipes that are easy to make parve. If you need help for alternative ingredients, lmk. This is how I was taught to cook (kosher).

So, given the SNAP crisis & that stupid DNC memo making the rounds it's important to revisit Reagan's decade long effort to demonize gov't spending on poor people by inventing the welfare queen lie. He's doing this as early as January of 1976. Please note the response from the crowd at the end.

I feel like this is a true Californian feeling. Those who don't loathe him, don't live in California.

I don’t need to explain why it’s wildly unacceptable for the military to be illegally privately financed by the president’s wealthy allies, right?

This.

Remember: just because they don't have national name recognition, doesn't mean they're not qualified. Both Betty Yee and Tony Thurmond have worked w/in CA state government, and know the ropes. They're good.

KP's never worked in Sacramento or w/ the Legislature in-depth.

‘Microlightning’ may spark glowing will-o’-the-wisps, study finds | CNN Flashes of microlightning between microscopic bubbles of methane in water may ignite the eerie blue flames of will-o’-the wisps, new research suggests.

Ever seen a spooky glow called a will-o'-the-wisp hovering in a swamp or bog? Wet places where organic things decay are gassy as hell, fueling these eerie lights. But what provides the spark? Microlightning that jumps between electrically charged bubbles of methane, according to a new study 🧪

We live in a country where gun violence is as common as rain. Here is where I sound cold, but you will deal. The danger is everywhere. If you can't face that reality I don't know what to say. We have more guns than people in this country. Campuses, jobs, malls, parks...nowhere is safe from it.

Reminder that feeding your cats raw food at this time is NOT safe. The speed at which cats go from a light fever to dying of pneumonia or neurological symptoms is just a few DAYS.

I lost 2 cats to this in March and had around 20k in medical bills to save 2 others who were hospitalized.

Some of y’all forget the reason we have food safety regulations is because companies used to do things like adding chalk to spoiled milk so it looked normal.

Regulations don’t exist because governments enjoy them. They exist because pure unadulterated capitalism would kill us.

CDC Massacre Came After Unprecedented New Limits on Access to the Covid Vaccine A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This...

The CDC debacle appears to be a direct result of RFK Jr's announcement that access to the COVID vax will be limited, bypassing the normal process for vax approvals, disregarding established science, and overriding the opposition of the public health community.

OK, @mayorbowser.bsky.social just spoke for almost an hour on Trump's order, and was fairly level-headed. She said that Chief Pamela Smith remains in charge of MPD, reiterated that crime levels are down (but she always wants them lower), and that this is happening because D.C. is not a state.

Flint Finishes Lead Pipe Replacement in Historic Milestone A decade after lead contaminated water was found in Flint's water system, the legal battle to replace lead water pipes is finished, a landmark milestone for a city defined by its dangerous water.

Why the hell isn't this a huge story? Is it because moments of good news get fewer clicks than rage baiting bullshit? Yes. The answer is yes.

It is worth noting that in 2023, Instant Pot declared chapter 11 and got sold to a private equity firm, Centre Lane Partners.

They bought it, restructured it as Instant Pot Brands.

Instant Pot was *already* a zombie company, already hollowed out by private equity.

Everyone was at my house for Father’s Day today.

End result: my dad agreed to replace the termite eaten board of the back deck and help weatherproof it in the fall. Ftr my back deck is large. This is a big win for me.

"Chosen to be International Workers' Day to commemorate the 1886 Haymarket affair in Chicago ... May 1st, there was a general strike for the 8-hour workday."

Even a $14,000 Government Handout Can’t Get South Korea’s Singles to Marry State-sponsored dating has become a phenomenon in a country with rock-bottom fertility rates; ‘I don’t want my parents to find out’

Government incentives to marry or have kids seem to becoming more common. I see these as a portrait of failing capitalist economies and logic. The investment needed to raise a kid who can compete/survive in modern capitalist economy is massive in terms of time and money.

Sorry to be a noodge, but this is my first US BookBub and I'm trying to get this odd little love story between the relentlessly mundane Molly and the angel of death into more hands while it's 99¢.

Cutting nearly $1bn from the DC budget is not “a mistake,” as I’ve seen people calling it. Republicans hate DC. It’s like 90% Democratic and is 41% Black. Why do you think they’ll never let it become a state?
