This is my Roman Empire- What could've been if 3M leaders and developers didn't create a massive anti-growth wall around the Saint Paul called Maplewood once the Minnesota Supreme Court threw out most of the state's cityhood laws.

Fix this mistake!

Lakeville discussing blocking new housing approvals for 1 year...
All the more reason for Minnesota to pass housing reform- we need to infill cities with excessive restrictions that aren't 30 minutes away adding 1200+ residents every year.

It couldn’t be a worse time for MN to reduce its investment in transit - MinnPost Walz’s supplemental budget proposal is a huge disappointment for metro boosters and transit fans.

I wrote about Governor Walz throwing transit funding under the bus with his recent budget request. www.minnpost.com/cityscape/20...

As silly as it is to have Leonidas get $30k in local govt aid for a city of 20 housing units, Eveleth has the highest ratio of Local Government Aid (LGA) per resident.
The Iron Range is heavily represented and the 20 cities with the highest aid/ population ratios receive $53M per year.

Lets consolidate some of Minnesota's 3600 local governments.

Minnesota has 755 4th class cities (pop less than 10k), yet 2/3s [500] of those 4th class cities are less than 1000 people and have 20%+ of their budget or more subsidized by state Local Govt Assistance (LGA).

Rendering of Cass Gilbert's Capitol Approach dream, looking north from the intersection of West Seventh Street and Kellogg Boulevard.

Hi friends: I'm excited to share that my upcoming book, THE CAPITOL APPROACH, will be published in 2027 by MNHS Press.

The book follows St. Paul's 50-year quest to build the system of parks and parkways that Cass Gilbert proposed to accompany his Minnesota State Capitol building in 1902. 1/5

This is my wife to me after I have a jager bomb and 2 PBRs at Bleechers Bar and proceed to talk to her about the millions given it for Minnesota LGA subsidies to small towns that need to be consolidated or dissolved because the state has too many 'cities'

Dissolve Falcon Heights!

80% of their $3.6M budget is outsourced, 20% [$760k] of it is subsidized by State LGA, and its 60% public land for U of M's "Saint Paul" Campus and the State Fair.

The place is a glorified HOA and tt wouldn't exist without a 3M exec & his developer claiming it all.

We had a great territory lined up, why the hell did we do a dumb thing like create TWO states of Dakota?
We only need 1 tops, ideally none.

Maybe we didn't build the new interchange near Rochester at 60th for $65M, or the new intersection at Hwy 36 and Lake Elmo for $60M, or a $60M interchange on 371 in Baxter, we could use that for transit?

Minnesota housing reform proponents remain hopeful for movement Although the Starter Home Act stalled in committee before a key deadline, lawmakers working on housing reform say the “issue isn’t going away.”

On its 3rd attempt, the bipartisan bill hits on reforms, including limiting the zoning authority of local governments, incentivizing more multifamily housing, and streamlining admin reviews.

Ha- I might just quit twitter for good and use that time for a blog/ zine. There are only a few more years for StP to move on Les Bolstad for development before Falcon Heights stunts any potential that site actually has.
