Howdy, Farmhands! This Thursday,I'm hosting the DIG FOR DOG Fundraiser, trying to raise $1500 for Toffee! I'll be digging a Hole in Hytale straight to bedrock, with each donation goal increasing the size of the hole exponentially to a grand total of 100,000 blocks!

Every year, I reread the LotR trilogy. This last year's reread amped me up and I started keying Middle-earth 12 miles at a time
Concurrently, without meaning to, I wrote a game to run the hexcrawl
I call it Lore - a Lord of the Rings Adventure Game retroclone
Here's what I think is fun about it๐งต
This week on the BREAK!! Blog: it's surprisingly hard to describe muppet like creatures.

Hahaha it's so obvious no idea how I didn't pick it up ๐
Definitely similar to Otherkind dice. The genesis for my idea comes from Schema, which is sort of an Otherkind sibling that does some similar stuff in different ways.
I don't get get the vampire reference ๐
Remember SKILL CHALLENGES? They're back! In blog form!
Check out my latest post where I lay out an easy and fun way to handle a complex, tense situation. It works in every TTRPG ever made up until this point and all future TTRPGs (disclaimer: this is a lie)

Another design journal post about Honeybees - very excited for the direction that the pathos of the game is going! As a bonus, I included an oracle table for the next NPC you need to run a castle in your fantasy TTRPG

Bluesky CENSORED me yesterday by just fucking up and not working, but here is a new blog post where I propose a procedural method for generating hexcrawl terrain, inspired by both Mausritter and the original DMG

I call it "move fishing" and it drives me up the wall when I see it ๐
They were whirling and spinning and dueling, man. Just outrageously out of control.
A spreadsheet control panel, with four sections. A detailed round by round time per turn, a bar chart with total times for each character, and pie charts with a percentage of time per combat (one with the GM characters, one without)
just remembered that at the very end of our time playing 5e years ago I started tracking turn lengths and would present them to the group at the end of the session
Thanks!!! I agree on the zoomed out domain stuff for sure!!
It would be really funny if you came back with "I hate this" ๐
In case you didn't know I released an open source app that does markdown + CSS to print layout
You can edit text via the browser app
Or in the editor of your choice (obsidian, sublime, vs code...)

Resurrected an old draft of mine to prove that I'm still blogging about ttrpgs.
I tried my best to explain it, so you don't have to be a software sicko like me!

Well it's taken around five years but my labor of love "Pilgrim's Passages" is officially out today. This release includes professional editing, new art, mostly linked pdfs*, character sheets, and more!

I'm revisiting this post and... I kinda cooked with these merchants

I've tried a bunch of different things, long campaigns always always always return to the humble spreadsheet

I'm always hyping up your situation prep sheets, very much would love to see more of them!
I love combat systems with hit locations. The only thing better than kicking someone off a ledge is taking off their arm.
BUT they're always so fiddly! I'd love to use hit locations in an OSR game. So here's a little system with a new combat resolution scheme.

A revised version, more refined and complete with layout, is now available.

It's actually quite easy ๐ค
1. First, fractilize the hex, OF COURSE.
2. Reread Prince of Hounds, bask in the glory of that, and then steal a bunch of those mechanics.
I'm adding SHIP COMBAT to my Shimmernight game this week.
Wish me luck.
Pray for me.
Remember me as I was, not who I'm about to become.
