It's so lovely, and next year would be the 100th anniversary!

This has been my child's home her entire school life. The school is wonderful, the faculty awesome, and the neighborhood supportive. We need more schools like Harvard, not fewer.
I love my family. I love spending time with them. But I am also an entire person separate from them. My spouse is an entire human being. So is my kid. We all have hobbies, friends, interests, tasks of our own. Because we're all different.
Being THAT enmeshed sounds unhealthy af, sorry not sorry.
Just saw a comment on the Zuck app that said "if your husband doesn't immediately come straight home after work, he's for the streets," with the follow up of "my husband never pursues outside hobbies that don't involve the whole family. We don't live separate lives."

Hello? Are you okay?
Finally started watching The Crown (yes, I'm way behind) -- I'm loving it so far, but it was REALLY stupid of me to watch a show that starts with losing a parent on today of all days.
Did I potentially just get scammed? Nothing is more likely. But I'd rather be out $25 and have the knowledge that I did what I felt was right and potentially helped someone in need.
Hopefully, whatever that money is used for, if it's not really food for his family, it helps someone who needs it.
Yes, I could adjunct...but I could have done that six years ago without getting a PhD.
No, getting a job isn't the only reason I'm doing my PhD work...but it'd be nice to at least see one (1) tiny bit of validation from an external source.
I've gotten three more rejections this week. Still no interviews, not even any interest emails.
I know this is a terrible job market, I really do...but I also can't help but feel like I'm being told that I'm completely unhireable and that the last six years have been a waste of everyone's time.
I love the empathy and concern...but also, some of us are JUST nocturnal, bro. I regularly have to tell students and colleagues to just NOT look at the timestamps on my work and emails. I'm a night owl, always have been, and while I'm PROBABLY going through some shit at any time, that's not why lol
I saw a post from a professor who said they got a late assignment from a student submitted via their LMS at like 2:30am. They gave the student full credit without even looking at it because they assumed the student must be dealing with a really rough situation to submit at that time of day.
Gotta love Googling someone I've been following on YT just to find out they're a transphobic, "good people on both sides" grifter.
To be honest, the video I was watching at the moment was giving me ick vibes, so I guess I'm glad to know that I was on-base there...?
Is it just me, or are Carpe deodorant ads just really thinly veiled armpit kink content??
Now I can talk to my kid, and she responds. We have discussions. She's a whole small adult (she's 12 lol) with opinions, thoughts, hobbies, preferences, and that's SO COOL??
Sure, babies are small and cute and all...but I'll take my tween (attitude and all) over a small child all day every day.
Possibly controversial statement: I do NOT miss when my kid was a baby.
People love to say "oh, this time goes so fast, you're going to miss these days!"
No.
I don't.
I was exhausted, stressed, at my wit's end, and constantly worried I was fucking up.
I'm still exhausted and stressed, of course
Because my student loans are deferred since I'm in school, I can't get a loan to help with any of our expenses, despite technically owning a home, nor have any of my job applications panned out. It's an absolute nightmare, and I'm not even as bad off as a lot of folks I know.
Someone online: (shares a picture of their gas receipt, having just paid $5 a gallon) How is anyone able to afford anything right now??
Me: I don't have insurance, have no savings, can't afford the second car our schedule really needs, can barely afford gas and maintenance on the one car we do have
Also, why is the "Grandma knew best advice" always something no one's Grandma ever did? 🙄
2: Not if your water is safe to drink!
3: I drank sun tea my whole life and never got sick!
3: Not in glass, only in plastic. Bacteria can't grow in glass!
4: Just drink it quickly so the bacteria don't have time to grow!
5: In my day, no one worried about "bacteria" and no one got sick!
Influencer: Grandma knew best! Don't boil tea, just put it in the sun for a few hours! 🌞 🍵 🫙
1: Well, there's actually a lot of concern that sun tea sitting out unrefrigerated but below the boiling point for hours can lead to massive bacteria growth...
This weather is gonna mess up people's allergies. It was almost 80 on Thursday. High of 39 today. 74 and stormy next Tuesday, chance of snow next Wednesday.
Wtf is March this year?
...no trans athlete has ever medalled at the Olympics...so the IOC decides to ban trans women and implement genetic testing.
Fuck ALLLLLLLLL the way off.
Amazing that when Michael Phelps, who is a fantastic athlete (no shade on him at all), is literally biologically different and genetically predisposed to being an incredible swimmer, he gets lauded and has a bazillion medals.
Meanwhile, study after study proves trans athletes have no advantage...
But then, in the video description, there was a long bulleted list of different ways the creator has changed her behavior as a parent to make her kids more self-sufficient and autonomous. I could barely read the list because it shows up as white font against the lower half of the video image.
Why??
Example: I just saw one that had the in-video caption of "how I teach my kids about carrying the mental load." The video itself was a 10-second (ish) clip of a person wiping down a kitchen counter, with "Freebird" playing as the background sound. That was the entire video.
Why is the trend with a lot of short-form content on FB lately a video with music but no speech, with all the actual info in the description (which is often difficult or impossible to read overlaid on the video)? I assume it's some method of boosting engagement, but I don't see the benefit myself.

It's always something in this damn state.
I'm starting to look forward to moving, despite having lived in Ohio off-and-on for nearly a decade.
Tell me why I washed two loads of dishes and still have a ton left?
No, I don't have a dishwasher. Don't worry why my sink was so full of dishes. This is why I have a ton of plates, bowls, cups, and utensils.
