Let's go on a character building journey!
Roll a d6 to meet our cast of characters and their initial motivation. We'll find out their personalities, name them and then move onto the Biome where our settlement will be located.
Let's discover who survives together

I need someone to please roll a d6 and tell me what you get.
1. Crime ring
2. Outpost
3. Exiled
4.Uprooted settlers
5. Explorers
6. God hunt

More detail will be provided for these Motivations once one is selected.
After this we discover our Biome, so keep watching.

Join me on a character building journey using my game Settlers of After.
We'll be making a small community setting out to build a new settlement. The trek will be perilous and not all the characters will survive. How will our story play out?

Let's jump right in by finding out our Motivation.

How could I improve the questions for this prompt, or is this enough of a jump off point?

Disrepair - Shotty work, poor quality resources or normal ware and tare has degraded a building.
Q's. Is there anyone being blamed for the disrepair? Why is it not repaired by the time the Adventurers return?

I'm looking for input
Your table has ~2-4 inactive player characters back at your base. When your active characters return home roll to see what happened back home.
Each event provides questions to prompt relationship developments between characters for good or bad.

I'm exploring the style of the rulebook for Settlers of After. I thought a showcase of the community/character creation would be a fun way to try out some designs.
I'm going for an illuminated manuscript vibe. I'd like it to be #grimdark with a tinge of hope.
Love to hear your thoughts!

Working on the style for Settlers of After rulebook.
I'm landing more on this on this greenish one.

Been cooking up a GM‑optional TTRPG where you run a fantasy shop using tarot + dice. I’d love play testers to try it & share feedback on how it runs. I can teach the rules, but you’ll play without me. Interested?

I've been having fun making mechanics for my TTRPG fishing game, but I'm not sure where I want to take it scope -wise.
Should it just be a plug and play system that is entirely system agnostic,or should I add build out a system for those looking for something more indepth?

I'm curious if anyone tries this and if so how's it feel?
It should require a bit of patience as you fight the fish and hopefully gives a sense of you ushering the fish over to you.

As for the modifier pool; you may use these dice to add or subtract from your initial roll. i.e. the fish range is 7-9 and you roll a 5 you may roll 1 or more d4 and add the results to your roll. Be careful! If you go over the range the line snaps and the fish is lost.

Continue this processes until the fish only has 2d4. If you succeed in rolling between the range the fish is caught!

If you succeed replace one of the fish dice with a value lower than it. d12->d10->d8->d6->d4.
Always replace the highest die.

If you fail replace the lowest dice with a die a step up. d4->d6->d8->d10-d12.

Fish starts with 2 dice. We'll use d12's for this example. Roll the two dice and note the range (lowest number and highest number)
Roll a d6 (d6 is used for basic rod and line)
Your goal is to roll a number that matches or is in-between the two numbers provided by the fish.

Reel er' in, nice and steady.
In fly fishing you need to guide the fish in, not pull it. This is because of the weaker line used. So here's how I tackled this.

Hook the fish.
Roll 1d20 and get within the range noted by the fish (for example between 2-17). This is the same as hooking in standard fishing.

Let's cast!
Players roll 1d20 and note the result. Roll again and again trying to get a higher result than the previous roll.
For each success add 1d4 to the Players modifier pool.

Lately I've been working on fishing mechanics for ttrpgs.
I already made one for 'standard' fishing, but now I'm working on fly fishing.
Feelin' pretty good about my progress so far.

#ttrpgmechanics
I'll explain the fly fishing mechanics in a thread.

I maybe would like a flashlight/infrared vision. Something that improves your sight.
Or extends your ability to breath.
An improvement on staying calm might be handy if fear/stress is important.

I suppose the answer depends on the themes and goals of the game.

I hope you enjoy them.

Fish measurements
With each failure the size of the fish goes up until ultimately it becomes a different (bigger) fish.

So catching that perch with two successes right out of the gate results in a small perch. Fighting it for a while results in a bigger catch.

You roll your dice and the GM rolls the fish dice.
You must meet or beat the fish dice sum.
There is a catch. Fish need X amount of consecutive successes to be caught. They also have Y amount of consecutive failures before they break free.

So a Perch might be 2 successes and 5 failures.

Fight!
Rods and lines are assigned dice. Default is just 1d6. Better rods/lines add more dice. Rods start at d6 and go up to d12. Lines start at nothing and go up to d12.
Fish have some dice noted. The perch from earlier might be 2d4 while a Marlin might be 2d20.

Hook the fish.
Roll a d20.
Fish have a range you must land in to hook them. A perch might be 2-18. A northern might be 5-17
Go under the range and it's like you're too slow to hook it and your bait was eaten. Too high and you pulled too hard, ripping the hook out of the fish.

There are a few key things I want to tackle first and foremost.
1. Hook the fish.
2. Fight the fish as you reel it in.
3. If captured provide weight and length.

@dicefunctional.bsky.social
You had asked about fishing mechanics a few days ago and I feel I have something to report.
Mind you I'm in the processes of testing these mechanics, but I feel I've got a good start.
