Screencap of an 2024 interview with Sato. Relevant text: Sato: The games I was into when I was in college were Super Mario Bros. 3 and Final Fantasy. I remember when I was in high school, an illustration I drew was used as the boss character of Mega Man 2. The character was called "Metal Man. Oozu: What? You told us about it so casually, but isn't that a great story? ？？？？ Sato: At the time, we were looking for boss characters for Mega Man from the general public. One of the several chosen was "Metal Man," which I submitted. But when I told people about it, they didn't really take to it. LOL!

Fun fax: Longtime Nintendo artist Masanori Sato (who did the character and promotional artwork for the first two Mario & Luigi, among other things) is also the creator of Mega Man 2's Metal Man!

Kinda crazy how it (and AGE) was put up there with barely a whisper.

And like, we see most of Robotnik's efforts either go to waste or turn back on him.

Maybe him being his worst enemy is him realizing that he's the lesser half of the two geniuses (which would then add into the nihilism he has by the SA1 arc).

I'm thinking of that one issue where Father Christmas meets him.

Considering Robotnik is created by an accident, maybe deep down, he felt like he shouldn't exist and that's why he wants conquest.

Because he doesn't want to believe he shouldn't exist.

Like, imagine a story where Robotnik keeps being reminded about how much better Kintobor made Shanazar and that the citizens even talk about him behind his back (or at least think they can).

How much of a failure Robotnik specifically is in comparison.

Didn't put too much thought in the "Robotnik is his own worst enemy" when initially reading it, but listening to the pod made me realize they could've done more with the Kintobor stuff for it.
