As my dad faded, he developed a cruel runny nose that made him quite uncomfortable. I wiped it for him and he made a quiet “honk” noise. This was something he used to do (although much louder) when he wiped our noses as kids, and I hadn’t heard it from him for probably 35yrs. Still makes me chuckle.

As a very junior doctor I recall earnestly explaining to a lovely family that their frail elderly ((great) grand)mother had very little time left. A week later they were still throwing me angry looks from their ongoing bedside vigil. 😬
