“AI is here, so we have no choice but to accept it”
so are immigrants and trans people, but I guess that’s a skill issue

let's GO
"Apostolic friendship". Really really don't need a phrase with a power relationship to cure loneliness.

My educational philosophy is that Khan Academy, TED, and the Education Testing Service are not engaged in the same activity I am.

Such a fun idea, such a completely muddled taxonomy of scenarios and outcomes. #LibraryLife
I missed the raccoon's hat the first time, can definitely see it.

Sports are great to watch. Talk about sports and hype about sports are my least favorite things, for exactly this reason.
This is exactly why I went back to handwritten meeting notes. I can type fast enough to transcribe a meeting, but the vibe and what's important and YOUR summary of it are all judgment calls. AI can't do that for you. #analog #OrganicIntelligence

And universities. Even in blue states, taking the moment to do what the revanchist trustees wanted all along.
Having an opinion based on something other than polling data is very popular, actually--and rare. Having a consistent worldview and speaking clearly sounds otherworldly.
Eastman was not disbarred for making bad constitutional arguments, nor because he represented Trump, nor because he challenged the results of an election, all of which are allowed. Eastman was disbarred because he knowingly lied to the courts with deliberately false factual representations.
Agree. I also notice NYT can't locate a source below the level of university president for any school other than Harvard or Columbia. Elite media's myopic focus on made-up problems at Ivies has fueled the tide that's wiping out the education system most people use.
It is super weird watching my home state make it impossible to get the public education I got. Three years is an eyeblink even in the life of Ohio's public universities. The purpose of a university is education, not job training.

Transgender discrimination is, by its very nature, sex discrimination. Discrimination based on sex is expressly prohibited under Montana’s unique Nondiscrimination Clause––“[n]either the state nor any person, firm, corporation, or institution shall discriminate on account of . . . sex . . . .” Thus, Article II, Section 4 is unequivocal in its intolerance for discrimination based on sex. Because sex discrimination involves a fundamental right under Article II, the appropriate level of judicial review is strict scrutiny. Snetsinger, ¶ 17. ¶28 Being transgender is also a suspect class under the Equal Protection Clause of Article II, Section 4,––“[n]o person shall be denied equal protection of the law.”
MONTANA SUPREME COURT: “Transgender discrimination is, by its very nature, sex discrimination,” and is subject to strict scrutiny under the Montana Constitution.
My condolences. Has my lord read the recent studye of who gets them? He is perhaps too cool for the room.

Yeah, Just War is a thing; the well-drilled theologians offering their thoughts on the current situation are extremely aware of the many centuries of debate on the topic, and they're still saying what they're saying
There is a just war doctrine. The Pope was referring to it in calling our attacks on Iran unjust.
At least Johnson is a Protestant arguing with the Pope about theology.
Very easy to bring a modern frame of reference to the medieval or ancient world and miss that their assumptions about money are often just completely different than ours.
Got it. "Newsworthy" is a characteristic only possessed by the right.
It's increasingly clear that we built the greatest university system in the world after World War II and we will let the market destroy it now that it has served the generation it was built for and their children.

Goddammit TBQ. Fine, I’ll start the thing.

The Internet is the world's largest convenience sample of human knowledge.
https://geohot.github.io/blog/jekyll/update/2026/01/26/own-a-zettaflop.html "Just an exaflop would feel amazing. 1000 Claudes. And I already have one of these, I just don’t have the software finished yet to command it all together. We’re working on it. But a zettaflop. One million Claudes. To be able to search every book in history, solve math problems, write novels, read every comment, watch every reel, iterate over and over on a piece of code until it’s perfect – spend a human year in 10 minutes. 50,000 people working for you, all aligned with you, all answering as one."
A fundamental category error of a bunch of engineers and in particular AI/ML ones is their belief that "everything accessible on the internet" or even "everything digitized" is the same as *everything*.
A zettaflop doesn't get you everything; what's digitized is very importantly *not* everything.
It's a tension for some of us librarians too. Even if I get an hour with your class there's a limit to how many of the stupidly complicated parts of how a research library works I can explain. But we are all optimistic and so.
Trump is running an interesting experiment in how many self-identified Christian Americans have actual religious commitments and how many are just into it because it provides a means for the socially defensible expression of bigotry bsky.app/profile/bria...
"The right’s characterization of higher education is a fiction. Students across the ideological spectrum feel free to express themselves, think their education is worth the cost and don’t think their views are silenced." Only 3% of Republican students feel out of place on campus for their views.
