Imagine a city where you could access fast underground trains, cycle through your streets unconcerned about congestion, and where if tired take an electric tram or a quiet taxi.
Welcome to London in 1898
Boy, we sure f***ed things up since then

There’s still lots of misinformation and misunderstanding about LTNs, particularly from people who think driving in cities is a “right”. Good to see 3 of these myths busted by @lowtraffichackney.bsky.social #hackney #ltn #traffic
We don’t just want more and better LTNs, we want Hackney main roads to change. 10% of Hackney residents live on main roads, and we want those people to feel the benefit too.
Here’s how main roads should be changed in Hackney:

Really enjoying the Bruce series @ladymissbarton.bsky.social . Great early archive content too
Led ride around Hackney this Sunday, starting at 11am from the Rio Cinema. Taking in a good portion of the borough and its cycleways / LTNs. Weather is looking, quite frankly, ridiculously good for November!

Just getting started here. Expect updates on Hackney LTNs, liveable neighbourhoods, cycle tracks, bus filters, school streets and anything related to reducing traffic in Hackney. Hello! 👋
Come say hi next time…
How my local high street went from a traffic clogged, polluted and unsafe route to a street I love spending time on:

UK only, in case you're wondering
This week on BBC Sounds we launched two new part-time live sport streams. Sports Extra 2 and 3 join the Radio 5 Sports Extra family, allowing BBC Sounds to make more live sport available and easy to find

Better parking? Really? How will that help the traffic/pollution/road safety problems that Hackney has? Genuine question. At the very least we need more cycle lanes, fewer journeys by car, more bus priority and better speed enforcement, imho
This.

Stupidly excited about this tonight… saw Bowie live at Milton Keynes for the Serious Moonlight tour, and again in ‘95 at Wembley, still love pretty much everything he did up to Let’s Dance (esp Hunky Dory, Diamond Dogs, Young Americans & Scary Monsters)

BBC 6 Music have upped their music mix game this Christmas. Many really excellent episodes of The Morning After Mix available now, curated by Flying Lotus, Big Thief, Clairo, Leon Bridges and Charli xcx

And yes, i'm not a big fan of cars generally, preferring active travel and public transport where possible, but this has got to be a lot better than having to use your phone whilst driving
BBC Sounds just launched on Android Automotive. This is our first "built into the dashboard" (not tethered to your phone) product. Limited roll out (new BMW and Mini) initially, more to come in the future

1/ Yesterday I spoke at UCL about the transformational benefits of Low Traffic Neighbourhoods.
This is what LTNs do:
* Halve road injuries.
* Eliminate rat-running.
* Reduce pollution, even at boundaries.
* Reduce street crime.
And here's the evidence...👇

I was in the online audience, it was great to hear you talk on this Jon!
Use some of that fuel duty £ to subsidise EVs and improve public and sustainable transport. Then introduce road pricing for petrol/diesel with 3 year EV exemption. Then ban SUVs from urban areas and follow Wales with a 20mph speed limit.
All this moaning from the car industry about weak demand for EVs making the 2030 target hard. Here’s a simple win-win for the environment and car makers: immediately remove the 5p fuel duty cut, and confirm that fuel duty will rise every year by above inflation. That’s the consumer incentive sorted.

Yet another massive crash on Lordship Park N16 this week due to ridiculous driving, in what is meant to be a 20mph zone. Luckily no pedestrians hurt. Apparently TFL won’t install speed cameras because there haven’t been sufficient deaths on the road. Seriously..

Just fyi, using voice via an Echo/Alexa speaker, you can rewind BBC radio up to 6 hours. E.g. “Alexa, ask BBC Sounds to rewind to 7am”. On our mobile apps and web the rewind window is limited to the start of the current live programme, so in most cases much less than 6 hours #bbcsounds
A few months ago we launched a new 24/7 Live News audio stream curated on BBC Sounds from across multiple BBC outlets, radio, tv, online. The more crazy things become in the world, the more value we delivered. Very proud of this work
