Unpopular view: instead of abolishing the House of Lords, we should reform it as the House of Experts. A body of unelected scientists, artists and (sigh, sure) theologians, composition to be peer-reviewed every x years. Brief: make necessary decisions which no mandate-dependent executive dare make.
It boils my piss to admit it, but there should probably be some lawyers and cops in there too.
