Our lilac tree has gone crazy this year, and the whole house is filled with the scent. Glorious.

It really is time we lost the term 'disorder' when describing autism/ADHD etc. It leads to faulty reasoning & prejudice. Neurodivergence is just a different cognitive makeup.
It'd be like saying someone with fair hair who burns more easily has a 'skin disorder'. We don't; we just say it's genetics.

Our next guest will be the wonderful Stephanie Burgis!

@stephanieburgis.bsky.social has books for adults, books for kids & dragons galore! Her latest adult book, Wooing The Witch Queen is a villainous romantasy of a helpless prince seeking shelter with the wicked sorceress! Also there's a library.

Movie you’ve watched more than 6 times, using gifs.

(“Hard mode” = no Star Wars, Star Trek, or LOTR)

Well OBVIOUSLY it has to be

…taken on a brilliant new WEM mentee, run creative writing sessions with my wonderful #BeyondTheSpectrum young writers, passed my driving theory test (woo-hoo!) and knitted most of this jumper (just the sleeves to go)! Hmm, maybe all this is why I'm a bit behind with my social media… 🤔

I think we can all agree that I'm officially HOPELESS at keeping up with Bluesky, but I'm still here, kind of! Over the past few months I've been working on 2 new WIPs, completed another project with Fiction Express, delivered a workshop to c.100 people at the @writingeastmidlands.com conference…

Really disturbed by an ad I've just seen for a 'service' promising a pathway to publishing run by someone whose website is littered with spelling errors. The books on their site have AI covers and blurbs, maybe the content too, who knows. I am not against indie publishing but this grift is not cool.

A photograph of a deserted pub car park surrounded by bare trees on a murky day: wet asphalt, grey sky. In the centre, next to a flumpy yellow cypress tree, are a litter bin and an ornamental lamppost who appear to be sharing a joke together. The head of the lamp is bent at an angle so it appears to be looking down at the bin whose lid has broken given it the appearance of a laughing face.

In January 2021, during the third national lockdown, I pulled into this deserted pub car park to turn the van round and found a lamppost and a bin engaged in lively conversation while they thought no one was looking. Incredible.

Image shows the cover of The Ghosts of Holly Hall by Emma Pass. The cover is illustrated in a cartoon style and shows a white girl with shoulder-length brown hair, standing with her back to the viewer and looking over her right shoulder. She is wearing a red hoody, jeans and red trainers, and wears a brace on her right leg. Behind her is a sinister-looking, ramshackle old house with a pointy roof and tall chimneys. There are lights showing in some of the windows and a flight of steps leading to the front door. Behind the house the sky is filled with tall white clouds. The cover has the title across the middle in bold white lettering with the author's name in smaller letters underneath and the Fiction Express logo, made to look like a stylised stack of books with "Fiction Express" next to them, in the bottom left-hand corner.

Excited to share that my story THE GHOSTS OF HOLLY HALL is being launched this Friday with Fiction Express! Every week, readers will vote for where they want the story to go next. And isn't the cover great? My MC, Lauren, has mild cerebral palsy like I do – I'm thrilled this has been represented!

Image shows the head of a black greyhound who is asleep with her mouth open and teeth showing, looking like she's drunk. She is lying on a furry blanket. At the top of the image is a graphic of Christmas decorations. At the bottom is "Merry Christmas" in a white calligraphy font.

Been a bit quiet on here because of life/work stuff, but popping up to wish everyone a Merry Christmas/holiday season and a Happy New Year! Auburn has already been at the gin, as you can see… 😂

Image shows the cover of STARRING KITTY by Keris Fox. The cover has a cartoon-style of two girls seen from the back, one in a pink top and black trousers with her her reddish-brown hair tied back in a ponytail with a spotty red scarf, and one wearing a yellow jacket and grey jeans – she has bobbed purple hair and a white rucksack with vertical black stripes across it and a black pocket/flap on the front. The girls are standing on a golden beach, looking out towards the sea, which is various shades of turquoise. The sky is blue with a few white clouds in it. There is also a quote that says "A beautiful, warm, kind, romantic, utterly special book – Susie Day"

It's #BookSky #BookAdvent Day 4! Today I'm sharing the 10th anniversary edition of STARRING KITTY by @keris.bsky.social, a heartwarming LGBT+ teenage romance about Kitty, who is falling for Dylan, the girl with the purpley-red hair…but Dylan wants to be more than Kitty's secret. What will Kitty do?

Bah, sorry to hear that. We had to go private to find this one (I'm in the UK and NHS dentists are rarer than hen's teeth now). She's great, though. Hope you can find one soon!

a kitten laying on a bed with its paws crossed Alt: GIF shows a sleepy grey kitten on a bed, faceplanting onto the covers

Today involved getting up early to do some writing (yay!) but also getting a MASSIVE filling redone and the left half of my face being completely numb for 4 hours afterwards (boo). I'm quite tired now...

Argh, why do they keep trying to push this nonsense?! So frustrating and wrong. I'm sorry to hear it made you so much worse.

Reposting for the evening (or perhaps it's morning where you are, or somewhere in between!) crowd. A stunning collection from a brilliant poet that's well worth a read. 🖤
