Day 24 #greatchildrensbooksadventcalendar from Annie Everall OBE
My number 1 Christmas picture book is The Night Before Christmas. I’ve built up a lovely collection of different versions of it over the years. Here are a few of my favourites. Happy Christmas everyone 🎄🎅🏻 #bookadvent
There could only be one choice for #BookAdvent #Day24. I read it every year on Christmas Eve, Charles Dickens' A Christmas carol. In the words of Tiny Tim "God bless us every one". Happy Christmas to all.
I really enjoy Iain Pears' writing. His art history mysteries are great fun, and a frequent go to when I need a pick me up. My favourite novel of his though is The dream of Scipio, a novel set at different periods in Provence, but always at a time of great change. Captivating. #BookAdvent #Day23
Belatedly for #BookAdvent #Day22, I've been completely obsessed by The woman in white by Wilkie Collins. How could I have forgotten what a great read it is?
#BookAdvent Day 23
#LastStopOnTheReindeerExpress by @mpowelltuck, illustrated by @kjmountford Enter a secret world within a mysterious postbox & head off on a sparkling, magical adventure. Gorgeous illustrations, peep-throughs & flaps. @littletigeruk.bsky.social
#BookAdvent #Day23 As 2025 draws to a close, a year which marked the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen's birth, it seemed only fitting to share my personal favourite...
#Persuasion #JaneAusten
#BookAdvent Day 22
#YouChoose Christmas from the dream team of #NickSharratt and @pippagoodhart
Every child I’ve shared this with (young, teenage, & in between) has absolutely loved poring over the pagers of this book & picking their ideal Christmas. A fantastic series! @puffinbooksuk.bsky.social
#BookAdvent #Day22 🦈 You're going to need a bigger coffee table...🦈

Day 20 #greatchildrensbooksadventcalendar from Annie Everall OBE
A few books to delight young children #bookadvent #childrensbooks
A book that manages to be both Christmassy and full of summer sunshine, The wind in the willows. I love the carolling field mice and Christmas with Badger. #BookAdvent #Day21
#BookAdvent Day 21
#LeahsStar by #MargaretBatesonHill, illus. by #KarinLittlewood
A beautiful retelling of the Nativity story from the perspective of an innkeeper’s daughter. Littlewood’s illustrations capture the sense of awe & wonder felt by Leah in the bustle around her. @alannamax
#BookAdvent #Day21 A wonderfully dark and suspenseful thriller, featuring a truly creepy killer, who is anything but sweet...
@nicolasobregon.bsky.social #TheSugarMan
There's always got to be some literary crime at Christmas, and the Maigret's Christmas anthology is one of the best. Particularly love the title story along with the wonderful Seven little crosses in a notebook #BookAdvent #Day20
#BookAdvent #Day20 Been handselling this one like a demon today. Based on a real life triple murder case in the Hebrides in 1857 this is a spare but extremely powerful read. Perfect.

#BookAdvent Day 20
#AChristmasDelivery by @andyshepherdwriter.bsky.social, @SarahWarbie
A gorgeous new festive tradition waiting to happen. Featuring snow dragons, sparking wit, & a pinch of Christmas magic, this is a must-have for little ones in the run up to Christmas. @templarbooks.bsky.social
Ending the year's #CalendarChaos with #AndSoThisIsChristmas by Brian Bilston
And wishing all my readers a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

My favourite heroine makes her entrance for #BookAdvent #Day19, the fabulous Moll Flanders by Daniel Defoe. Defoe writes women so well, and I love Moll, tough, sassy, entertaining, and loving. She's a constant on my fictional dinner party guest list.
#BookAdvent Day 19
A classic for you today… #TheTwelveDaysOfChristmas from @brian_wildsmith. His distinctive illustrations accompany the lyrics of what must Shirley be one of our most-sung Christmas songs! @oupprimary.bsky.social
Day 17 #greatchildrensbooksadventcalendar from Annie Everall OBE
A Poem for Every Question by Brian Bilston illustrated by Joe Berger published by #RedShedBooks #poetryforchildren #bookadvent
OMG! This book! Thank you so much for choosing #TheTranscendentTide as book 19 of #BookAdvent! We LOVE this book so much and we are so thrilled that you did too! x
#BookAdvent #Day19 This final instalment of the #Enceladon trilogy was a wonderfully satisfying conclusion to this excellent series. I would urge you to discover this series too! ❤️🐙 @dougjohnstone.bsky.social @orendabooks.bsky.social
The book that first got me into dystopian fiction, Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham. It's also a great example of why it's worth re-reading. First read it in school and hated it. Re-read after watching an excellent BBC dramatisation, and was completely hooked. #BookAdvent #Day18
I love film critic Dilys Powell's memoir of her life in Greece either side of the Second World War, An affair of the heart. It's a powerful memoir about love and loss, and the value of friendships. As you would expect from Dilys, it's also beautifully written. #BookAdvent #Day17
#BookAdvent Day 18
