I'm also writing my own dialogues for my personal game project. Yes, it slows me down since I have to write branching convos but it's worthwhile since I can practice writing something tangible so that writers can work off of what I already typed out at least.
Prey 2. Just remake it so we can finish it lol.
The Longest Journey, I want to just redo the whole environment but modernize it up. Keep everything the same for the most part and just make the whole environments pop. Maybe polish up some of the explorable space more.
On Snatcher, I'm between keeping the anime look but expanding some parts of the game into first person explorable areas or create a whole city to explore but this would be extremely risky.
Obviously with Kurohyou, recreating the whole story in Dragon Engine (or any other engine). Bring back the minigames and add some new ones. Mix in some substories and maybe a minigame tied to a string of substories, like the cabaret club.
I'm trapped on 3, maybe 4 games, I would wanna remake. They are:
- The Kurohyou series
- Snatcher (yes that Konami one)
- The Longest Journey
- Unreleased Prey 2 (this is my maybe)
I'm sorry. Didn't mean to bring back that memory.
I can also see the dumb and mean thing which is to layoff most of the team the day before release.
Also, forgot to say, agree that we should have some more games on single theme and/or genre like you mentioned on like arcade racers or extreme sports games.
Additionally, bringing up FromSoft seems like a lob-sided comparison because their budgets is different if we based it on the dollars amount vs. the yen. Which I find fascinating if we start seeing how Europe and Asia operates on costs compared to NA's costs.
Though I keep running into my own worries that elements of cost of living in America vs. elsewhere around the world isn't being highlighted enough to explain parts of why budgets are ballooning. Though, not the point of the video, I get it and you mention one of the aspects in cost, "healthcare".
My one criticism for the video specifically, there should be titles of the game shown so someone can look them up out of interest. Otherwise, I really like that it explains some of the issues specific towards western problem, mostly American really, in building games w/ risk or losing AA games.
RozaldVane's recommended review of Adios on Steam. It reads: "Knowing what's come and doing what you can while you still can, encapsulates the vibes of the game. Story - You play as a man who is tired of his job and wants out but you get a visit from a familiar face which is where the story goes from there. Unraveling the mysteries and feelings of a small cast of characters. It's pretty slow-paced but to a tense dramatic effect. Short story so you'll either like that short trip or not. Gameplay - Quite simple but it gets the narrative job done. Lots of walking but every now and then, you'll be doing a small task that is an interaction mechanic. There's also plenty of fun quirky detail and gameplay interactions that can deviate from the game's golden path. I did 100% the game so it's quite easy to get them. Art/Music - The art style is quite nice. Though the artistic composition of scenes is where the beauty lives. Music, unfortunately, don't remember much of it but there is a record player for some tracks. Summary: Game is quite good and it's short enough to get through if you are scratching a itch for something small. It's one of those games you can also just be in-game and stare at the world with mellow feelings. Just contemplating what life is, just like the main character."
Opted to do a long info review.
Or just being creative and flexible at solving half or most issues when they come up can also go a long way.
I always think that organizing the game's production time is just a complex game of Jenga. Taking the right piece out so the whole thing doesn't come crashing down. Personally, don't think there will always be a one size fits all for reducing the game dev time but knowing a lot can go a long way.
When the info is too dense or I'm impatient about the "instructions", I'll just throw myself into the deep end and play it out, even if I lose, I'll learn better that way.
Though I'm finding that some puzzle games would have this problem of communicating the Y and Z to solve/do X.
The Behind the Scene for Chopper is also cool. It's practical mixed with CG and played by 3 people.

I wouldn't be surprised if this DLSS version will render the game's graphics twice, just to change the way it looks. This will tank performance if it does lol. But worse of all, this is a direction that just tries to make every game look the same. Games have a distinct art style for a reason.

Also adding this video that does a good job putting visuals to the album tracks. Not all of the tracks but some notable ones.

Blonde is such mood. I just randomly listen to some of the tracks every year. Never tired of it lol.
Dang shame then. Such a missed opportunity.
Honestly, I've had this thought in my head but Xbox really do need to be independent at this point, in light of this shake-up. They never needed Microsoft because they have enough money to be self-sufficient. It's just a problem of no one will make it happen, sigh. imo RIP Xbox.
Relationship like Booker T and Stone Cold, wrestle over groceries in the supermarket.
Isn't this what libraries are for? Haha. Just that it would be libraries with gaming hardware for rent.
I think the game gives more of Nier Automata vibe, especially with the music.
You're good. I think we all are tired from the messy news we get in this industry as of late.
I agree with your core sentiment but it's hard to know what's entirely going on in studio to really place the reasons for the layoffs. I just think maybe, their top-level decisions might've push them into the red and can't pay people anymore. Mismanagement can be the factor for this.
