It was 1984 or 1985. I was in line in a cafeteria at Princeton. Brooke Shields was ahead of me in line. She turned to me, pointed to a tray, and said, "do you think that is chicken salad or tuna salad." I responded, "I don't know. Smell it." She smelled it and said, "tuna."

Recused judge in Nichols case in 'completely uncharted' territory The federal judge formerly presiding over the Tyré Nichols case could be deposed over his recusal from the case earlier this month.

Can a defendant really depose a federal judge about the reasons he recused himself between the criminal jury verdict and sentencing?

He doesn’t seem to have the appropriate disposition for coaching in college. Might have a cultural problem similar to all those college coaches who failed in the NFL.

Should be enough time. No guarantees, of course. But Chicago in February would seem to be a worse option.

I thought it was fine but if others say to avoid, then I’d avoid.

Local judge releases Thanksgiving murder suspect without bond Judge Bill Anderson ordered Edion White to be released on his recognizance on Nov. 27, four days after being arrested after the death of a local teen.

And this is one of the primary reasons Memphis has such a crime problem: suspect charged with first degree murder but released without bond.

Well, I defer to federal criminal lawyers on that.

Yep. Even a moderately complex civil case in federal court takes more than a year to go to trial.

Wright & Miller strikes again: Researching a legal issue, the treatise, 5 paragraphs into the discussion, informs that me [i]t attracted little attention until 1953." Is there a single lawyer in the U.S. who wants the treatise to trace the issue back 70 years?

If your position is that civilians can never be incidentally killed in war, I respect that view. But that is not what the laws of war provide, and as a practical matter means that no nation can ever undertake a just war or defend itself lawfully. Civilian deaths are tragic, no doubt, but inevitable.

I’m sure you don’t want to play that game.

I’m familiar with the application of different standards to different people.

Yes, it’s the well known Jewish exception to the established laws of war. What the international community determined was lawful after WWII is simply not available to Jews to defend themselves. Thanks for clarifying.

True. Letting Jews die has historically been a mainstream position.

Maybe you didn’t—I certainly don’t—but many are denying that this even happened. So unfortunately this is necessary.

I think the extension pushes the case to the January 5 conference. So the Court will decide no earlier than that date.
