#Scriptsky it’s been a busy month. Closed on a townhouse and finally moved in this week. Haven’t written or posted much but I’m excited for that to change!!

Excerpt from essay with highlighted text: “People would be interested in knowing things like how you planned the Earthsea world, and how you developed the languages, and how you keep lists of places and characters and so on.” To which I returned some kind of garble-garble, of which I recall only one sentence, “But I didn’t plan anything, I found it.” Andy (not unnaturally): “Where?” Me: “In my subconscious.”
Reading Ursula K. Le Guin’s collection of essays “The Language of the Night.” (Highly recommend for fantasy and sci-fi lovers.) In “Dreams Must Explain Themselves,” she makes this point about creativity. Published in 1973 but it neatly sums up why LLMs can’t actually create anything. #Scriptsky
#Scriptsky funny observation. Yoga helps me de-stress. Stretching tight places that don’t usually get work releases tension for me.
Music does the same. Expressing (or stretching) emotions like despair, heartbreak, etc. makes me feel lighter. All art can. It’s why I love it. Movies especially.
#Scriptsky I can’t lie, the Disney/OpenAI partnership dissolving gives me a true boost of hope. None of this is inevitable!
I like that!
#Scriptsky Oscars discourse online annoys me because it misses a fundamental point. The purpose of art is not to “fix” society or provide concrete answers or policy platforms. At its best, art achieves something between a mirror and a crystal ball. It’s our job to do the work in the real world.
#Scriptsky. It’s funny. For all I think about structure, character, world building, theme and so on, when my scripts aren’t resonating, it usually boils down to the most important part. Passion.
To quote Hemingway: “There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.”
#Scriptsky my hottest Oscars take… stop playing off the winners. Cut these cringy comedy routines from the presenters. It’s not your night, just read the damn nominations.
Same!
#Scriptsky Happy Oscars Sunday!!!! I really enjoyed the crop of films this year so I’m just excited to enjoy the show. Good luck to all of your favorites.
#5amwritersclub #Scriptsky haven’t been writing as much to start the year as we were house hunting and close in a few weeks. Trying to take advantage of this lull to catch up! Figure it’ll be worth it once we’re settled and I have a dedicated creative space.
Holy fuck the news was grim this week. Between Paramount, Kansas, and the government being hellbent on creating Skynet we’re definitely in The Empire Strikes Back phase. But to all my fellow screenwriters audacious enough to create right now… cheers to you. 🥃 You inspire me. Happy Friday. #Scriptsky
Damn…. The Ellisons owning this much media seems very bad.
Congrats to all the writers that made the Grey List!! Fingers crossed for all of you and I hope to see many of these projects in the big screen one day. #Scriptsky
Love to hear it!
#Scriptsky haven’t been posting much because we’ve been house hunting so I haven’t had the free time to write. Happy to report we had an offer accepted and have a closing date in March! Hoping new digs and new office space unlocks a new creative phase. Either way, very happy the hunt has ended!
Godspeed!
#Scriptsky finally gotten back into a good writing routine this week. It’s crazy how much more optimistic I am when I write consistently. I mean, the country’s still a dumpster fire, but at least I can focus on all the good folks trying to put it out and sing with my bucket. Or something.
Trump has been the defining political force of my adult life. After he’s gone, what I’ll remember most isn’t him, but how many people, including my own friends and family, revealed their true selves. I hoped we were better than this. The truth really hurts sometimes.
#Scriptsky saw Blue Moon a few days ago and was surprised by how much I liked it since I know next to nothing about its subject. Ethan Hawke is unbelievable and the script was hilarious and deeply human. It’s definitely stuck with me.
Dem messaging is actually easy here for those scared of being labeled soft on crime or whatever bullshit.
We support law enforcement. ICE is not that, officers of the law don’t hide their faces. They are Trump’s secret police brutalizing and murdering people. Abolish ICE and prosecute criminals.
Agreed
My new shirt came in today. News only makes it more urgent.
Love that Sinners got so many Oscar nominations!!! But my guy Jesse Plemmons was snubbed. There are not five better performances this year than his in Bugonia.
So true, and that can be a good or a bad thing.
Haha, love that! Hoping I will too.
#Scriptsky #5amwritersclub It’s absolutely wild how confidence in a project can vary from one day to the next.
Yesterday: Damn, this is gonna be good.
Today: What dipshit came up with this?
Nothing for it but to keep going!
#5amWritersclub #Scriptsky, took me longer than I wanted to get started but I’m back on the horse! It’s nice getting back into the chair after a break. Makes the next time less daunting!
Every time I read these pieces about “normal Republicans” I’m astounded at how stupid the reasoning is, if you can even call it that. The takes on tariffs made me want to gouge my eyes out. We are such a dumb country.
I also vote second one!
