Jerry Garcia‘s famous tiger guitar sold for 11.5 million last week. If you had 11.5 million to spend on a legendary rock n roll guitar, which one would you buy?

More than any other band that I post about, the Red Hot Chili Peppers get the most hate. I’ve been reviewing rock ‘n’ roll books and docs for 4 years and it’s not even close. They just put out a new doc and people just flame this band when I talk about them. I’m not the biggest fan, but why?

Watched the McCartney doc “ Man on The Run” over the weekend- good stuff. Made me go and pull out a bunch of his solo records.

So, what it’s you favorite Paul solo work?

I’m going Band On The Run tied with his self titled first release.

Very cool to read about a new Greg Allman documentary called “ The Music of My Soul” is set for a summer release.

No firm date yet, but it’s nice to see it’s finally coming.

What would you rather see-
a Red Hot Chili Peppers career retrospective doc?
or
A doc about their early years and the story of original guitarist Hillel Slovak?

The second choice is coming March 20

Just did a podcast episode focusing on must see and read Grateful Dead books and docs.

The doc Long Strange Trip still feels like the gold standard. Four hours, not a lot of gloss. They don’t dodge Jerry’s relationship with fame or the cost of it all. This is where I would start.

Looks like the new Red Hot Chili Peppers doc coming out March 20th is not a look at the bands career, but only focusing on the band’s early years and the death of original guitarist Hillel Slovak.
And to me, that’s just fine.

Glasses up to Sly Dunbar who passed today!!!!!!
Sly played on a ton of great records. As a Dylan fan, I will always be partial to his work on the Infidels tracks.

Just watched the new Springsteen:Nebraska Live video running on Hulu.

Just Bruce in an empty theatre, singing those haunting song from Nebraska.
And even though I have heard those songs many times, they are still so unique and emotionally unsettling in the best possible way.

Really glad the Jeff Buckley doc “It’s Never Over” is finally streaming on HBO.

I’m glad more people are getting exposed to him.

The doc is a deeply human portrait of a lesser known musical talent whose life and legacy still resonate!

It’s been over a year from its release, but I’m still fascinated by “Mixing Up The Medicine” the Bob Dylan book that features artifacts from the Dylan Center.
