Its wild watching Youtuber types in their 20s and 30s defend manga piracy in videos or posts on occasion. Good luck to them when they say that to their heroes faces or try to break into the industry.

Oh some of those people definitely aren't teens.

At the risk of sounding my age here I don't think I've ever experienced more second hand embarrassment on the internet than seeing (what I hope are) teens harassing their favorite mangaka over petty shit and weird accusations or straight up telling them to their faces that they pirate their work

Steve Gerber wrote a lot of issues folks. There's a recurring, long running subplot involving an Elf. A space man starts a clown based cult. A woman runs for president after replacing her brain/head with a plastic ball. It is fun, wild stuff.

But what of Gundwoman

It sounds like Starfighter will be a fresh start... post-Rey trilogy, probably not severely tied to other stuff. Curious how stand-alone the Grogu movie'll be.

The Acolye was fun for being mostly an original thing set in the past but I guess high production costs during Covid curtailed making more.

I think the limit on spinoffs was due to Lucasfilm wanting to keep options open for sequels? Tho the ability to greenlight the production stage for sequels was out of their hands (upper level Disney management decisions).
Do hope the Kylo spinoff and Rey one make it out eventually.

I think the challenge with the sequel stuff was getting continuations greenlit. Comics pubs and novel publishers were a little restricted in doing spinoff material, there was an animated series that didn't hit as big as Clone Wars & Rebels... then a Kylo movie didn't pan out.

Oh yeah, mostly meant for folks starting out. You've done pretty good through the years, and doing KS's and such is a full time job on top of making comics & dayjob

Hopefully the market for grownup GNs will expand over time. Might be a different landscape in 2 or 5 years. Book proposals can be tough to get out there tho.

One thing I do like about how is there are way more venues to self publish & despite its (many, many, many) numerous flaws social media is good for getting work out there. Very different from the late 90s, and even from the early 00s.

You gotta do an off-brand StarWars comic sometime if they dont. That would make a good GN. Space Pirates and Aliens and What Not.

Fascinating to see what a phenomenon webtoons are, after being in the MT family for so long. Nice to see Smile everywhere tho, & have a lot of GNs by Girlamatic & other MT artists.
