Not sure what this normies stuff is about but if you haven't noticed nice ladies do a lot of the activist work in this country and have since the abolitionist movement, you maybe should.

Best I can reckon, this would be the most people ever assembled on Boston Common in its 392 years? Would be the papal visit in '79, the last No Kings in '25, then today.
drone shot pulled from CNN #NoKings
#NoKings from the arctic in Utqiaġvik, Alaska the northernmost city in the entire USA!
If you steal from this book to feed An AI made from peerless greed May boils burn upon your skin And worms bite you from within.
Okay, I get publishers affirming that the books we've produced are human-made, but have we also considered bringing back medieval book curses??? Just saying.
So many good good dogs say #NoKings
a tumblr post with a user named bvckbiter writing "is this character good or bad" "is this shop unproblematic or not" "is this arc deserving of redemption or not" girl... underneath it is a screenshot from the show shōgun of a character saying "i don't have time for this christian nonsense"
How I feel reading 99% of art and media critique these days
I love Bibipins!
Okay I get that the new big thing is shitting on white organizations who are visibly doing symbolic actions, but like, maybe double check what else the org is doing before you complain that they're useless?
here on Boston Common there are maybe 40 tents from different advocacy and organizing groups set up between the subway stations and the rally point, and people are stopping by and signing up
it’s not just hanging out with signs, it’s making connections
Social movement scholar here to comment on No King again. a 🧵:
These protests are important b/c:
1.) as sustained image events, protests offer evidence of continued disapproval of the direction the country is going and disavowal of the country's leadership.
“We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings.”

In case it wasn’t clear, I really loved your Mind The Tags ep, and was tickled to hear shout-outs to one of my very early fandom obsessions (X-Men movieverse) as well as one of my latest (Heated Rivalry)!
I totally see what you mean. I wasn’t trying to argue with you/the other podcasters about your approach to HP criticism, I was just trying to add context to my own decision to share your post.
If anyone is wondering or even cares: I think we should avoid spending/generating money toward HP products as much as possible, esp new ones like the upcoming show. I won’t tell anyone to stop TALKING about the books/fandom as cultural phenomena, since we can’t undo the impact they had on the world.
~in case you missed it~ the lovely hosts of @mindthetagspod.bsky.social had me on this week to talk about the seven-figure deal to to pull to publish the AO3's most popular fanfic, the 500K-word Remus/Sirius (Harry Potter) story All The Young Dudes. As you could guess, my feelings were...negative. 😌
If you see an ICE agent, ruin their day. It's not hard or illegal to ruin someone's day, and you know a thousand ways to do it.

I'm not the biggest fan of "wholesome" as a form of praise but I can see why people call Heartstopper that! It's very sweet and adorable and makes me INFINITELY glad that I'm no longer in high school.
Honestly it feels unkind to even weigh in on the Discourse but maybe we could consider that individual women's relationships are not the make-or-break test for Feminism.
Watched the first 3 episodes of #HEARTSTOPPER last night after having heard a lot about it for years. I'm glad it exists. I'm also glad #HeatedRivalry exists. When I champion diverse media, I'm talking about the types of stories being told, and by whom, not just whom they're told ABOUT.
the human body was not designed to know what the worst person in the world is doing every fifteen minutes
I admire you for trying to hold these apparently conflicting truths in your mind at once. I feel at times like some otherwise progressive people aren’t trying (though I would love to be wrong).
I think about this all the time! Complicity isn’t a useless concept but w/o nuance it can devolve into a secular version of original sin, and/or a stick to beat ourselves/others with.
I might not have processed my feelings abt CDL’s books in the most constructive ways but I am NOT sorry I read them.
This is SO TRUE and one of the reasons why I am personally and professionally opposed to censorship. Stories can foster empathy and help readers/writers emotionally “rehearse” trauma.

I "borrowed" his first two story collections from @kateschapira.bsky.social's bookshelf. They're still at my parents' house.
I think "too young" means different things to different readers. Still not sure I was emotionally ready at age 12-13 for some of the horrific character backstories in Charles de Lint's Newford series, tho I love those books and wouldn't be the same without them.
If you know, you know.
