The previous earliest record of LRP at North Cave Wetlands was one on 14th March 2021, so a full 10 days earlier!

Black-crowned Night Heron.
Perhaps one of the surprises of the year on my local patch of North Cave Wetlands was this adult, presumably last year's returning bird.
The bird gave good views at times over its 9 day stay.

Bird showed well for several minutes mid-morning in the grassy field by the Sewage Works.

Excellent views this morning of the Drake Smew at Dacre Lake, Brandesburton, East Yorkshire.

There is not much open water, but there is still plenty to see, just of birds seen today.

These 3 Bewick's Swans were a pleasant surprise on my local patch at North Cave Wetlands this morning, when they flew onto Crosslands Lake. They spent just under an hour on the reserve as they swam, fed and preened before eventually flying off South.
