Hello friends — I’d like to share a few moments from my PhD defense earlier this week. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who supported me along this journey — my supervisors, colleagues, friends, and institutions (Ifremer/UBO).

Thank you all 💕

Only 2.5% of animal biomass is human.

Still, that fraction is reshaping the fate of the whole 🌍.

We present the new marine nematode species: Dracograllus miguelitus. It is the first species of its genus described from hydrothermal environments, and from the deepest location so far. This is the first paper of my PhD, and I’m deeply grateful to my supervisors!

¿Y si te dijera que hay un mundo "invisible" bajos tus pies, lleno de animales que nadie ve pero que lo sostienen todo?🔍
Mi tesis va de ellos: la meiofauna. 🪱🦂

¡Te lo cuento en este hilo!🧵

Wonderful initiative. We must never overlook the importance of taxonomy. There is no sense in talking about species conservation without paying close attention to advances in systematics and taxonomy. Thank you, everyone!

I came across this quote from Cobb years ago when I started studying nematodes, and it totally blew my mind. I asked AI to generate an image based on it, and… pretty sure I just discovered the perfect setting for a dystopian movie 😅

These decisions by Trump are nauseating. Absolutely everything he does is nothing more than a need for personal affirmation, which he projects as being American. I hope history is mercilessly harsh on everyone on this vile and rotten side.

"Why should we care about a 'worm'?" | An Interview with Dr. Franziska Sophie Bergmeier, Solenogastres Expert - Ocean Census Dr. Franziska, an Ocean Census award-winner, explores Solenogastres, unveiling complex biology and pioneering faster species discovery.

Why do we care about deep-sea worms?

2024 Ocean Census Awardee, Dr Franzisca, says: “While small and overlooked, Solenogastres are part of a broader conservation picture, and studying them can reveal unique adaptations.”

Where do they shove the freedom they preach so much? What a disturbance—exhausted from seeing so many people like that in positions of authority.

Migrating to this platform and wanted to introduce myself again. My name is William Johnson, I’m Brazilian, and I research meiofauna and marine nematodes of the deep ocean. I hope to find friends here as well—it became impossible to stay over there!

Very nice video, Elisabeth. Your specimen looks like a Desmoscolecidae individual. These annulations in the body are typical of then. ☺️
