Kushner Does Milton Like Milton’s Paradise Lost , Tony Kushner’s Angels in America is an attempt to justify the ways of God to man. The works seem to come to very different conclusions, with Milton absolving God from any...

I'm excited to share the first fruits of a new direction in my research. (Feel free to call me for any Tony Kushner-related emergencies!)

The US Conference of Catholic bishops, as well as individual bishops, priests and deacons, sisters and brothers, and lay men and women from around the world (including myself for two years in East Africa), help migrants and refugees not because the migrants and refugees are Catholics...

I don't wish death on anyone, even rapists, but I am looking forward to the day when I can rewatch *Chinatown*.

(This is an always-true sentiment, but one made freshly relevant by the L.A. fires.)

my official position on the Pope appointing Cardinal McElroy as the new archbishop of Washington DC is that it’s GLORIOUS how right-wing Catholics are spinning out over this. apparently he staunchly opposes denying communion to pro-choice politicians, which is pretty significant in that diocese!

Like the aging band nerd I am, I watch no part of the Macy’s parade with so much interest as the marching bands.

Since there seem to be a lot of new professors on Bluesky, I'll re-share this link to the AAUP's "Organize Every Campus" campaign. This is a critical time for faculty to organize in defense of our students, ourselves and co-workers, and the institutions we believe in. Join us!

I was thinking about this when I decided, once again, to make the case that my service load is higher than "expected" and should earn me a credit toward a future course release. It's never been successful before & I was going to just submit. But no: we should *make* them deny us every time.

No despair like the despair of long days on campus when the office candy bowl contains only *bad* candy.

I wouldn't say so? But this is also in the context of having recently rewatched *Maltese Falcon*--that one was much meaner than I had remembered.

Watching Rita Hayworth's *Gilda* for the first time. It's great! But years of noir fandom did not prepare me for the part about the tungsten cartel.

Ahhhhh. I had forgotten what this site/the former site was really for: opening every 3.5 minutes--or every time I get stuck revising a sentence and it's hard and I don't wanna.

I walked into the faculty break room, and on the table where people leave food for the taking--home-baked goods, produce from their yards, leftover stuff from breakfast meetings--there was an enormous bag of Flamin' Hot Cheetos and one small apple.

When I came downstairs this morning, my kid said, “I want to wear one of those, Mama!” So now she’s at preschool in a dress with a smiling cat face on it & a Jaipuri print silk scarf tied jauntily around her neck. #readyforthatEUpassport

In 1614, a mother of eight put on a play about her cheating neighbour. The scandalous story changes what we know about women in theatre Only a handful of plays written by women in the early modern period have survived. But the accounts of Alice Mustian’s raunchy stage show shed light on a surprising playwright and impresario.

Misha Teramura, @matthewsteggle.bsky.social & I wrote a thing for The Conversation about Alice Mustian, who in 1614 wrote and produced a play about her neighbour’s adulterous affair: theconversation.com/in-1614-a-mo...

At my 30th HS reunion (a year and a half ago), I had not one, but two separate conversations--neither started by me--about how we couldn't WAIT to turn 50 and get the shingles vax. Coming soon to an arm near me!

Ohio friends: consider contacting Gov Dewine to urge him not to sign the "bathroom bill" (SB 104). Educators are in a particularly good position to made the case against this on practical grounds, though I also brought up the specter of conference/business boycotts, as in NC.
