I definitely recommend it, it's super satisfying, haha
(Generally, I do stain the block, and I also use a sharpie to black in areas as I go, but the cornstarch is especially helpful after initial proofing maybe stains the negative space)

This is a linocut, for block printing; I poured cornstarch over it and leveled it off with a ruler to better see what areas are raised and will actually print. This way I can quickly get an idea of what the final print will look like, without getting the block dirty doing a test print :)
A linocut of a cartoon caterpillar with two heads, filled in with cornstarch to clarify the relief. The body snakes down the block in an "S" shape and has round body segments with a pair of legs on each. The top head has a halo, benevolent expression, is holding a harp and is surrounded by music notes. The bottom head has pointed horns, a devilish expression, is holding a pitchfork with one hand and flipping the viewer off with the other hand, and is surrounded by random symbols (like curses in cartoons)
Zoomed-in shot of the previous image, to show details of the hatching on the caterpillar's markings.
Quick test because I got worried but I was right all along, actually ππ

A black and white linoprint proof of a cartoon caterpillar with two heads. The body snakes down the page in an "S" shape and has round body segments with a pair of legs on each. The top head has a halo, benevolent expression, is holding a harp and is surrounded by music notes. The bottom head has pointed horns, a devilish expression, is holding a pitchfork with one hand and flipping the viewer off with the other hand, and is surrounded by random symbols (like curses in cartoons) The print is on a messy desk, and linocut tools and scraps of lino are scattered around the sides.
YEAH, BABY!!!!! ππΌπ
Plenty to do still before it's actually ready to print, but there's no high like pulling the first proofs tbh π€π€
(Hard to tell from here but it's pretty big, the newsprint is 9x12 πͺπͺ)

A cartoon drawing of a caterpillar with a face on either end. The body of the caterpillar is wrapped in a horseshoe shape around a yellow flower with chewed leaves. The left face has a mischievous expression. The right face has a yellow halo and a sheepish expression. Both faces have smiles with sharp teeth and pink cheeks. They are facing a leaf with two bites taken out of one side.
A cartoon drawing of a caterpillar with a face on either end. The face at the bottom has a benevolent expression, a yellow halo and is holding a yellow harp with nearby music notes. The face at the top has a mischievous expression, devil horns, a pitchfork and is giving the middle finger. The body of the caterpillar has light blue markings like eyes and legs with pink feet.
A drypoint etching print of a little devil, in magenta ink on lavender paper. They are smiling and squatting and hold a short pitchfork in one hand and give a thumbs down with the other. It has sharp teeth, 5 little hairs, a pointy tail and a single visible nipple. The drypoint etching gives the printed lines a characteristic blurry look.

Can't beat the price ;)
But I'm seeing they're like $20 new (~$10 used) and seeing how much a fancier one costs, and how useful it is, I'd have paid that
I got a cheapo Crayola one out of the trash and it's totally serviceable :)
A black and white poster for a local art market which reads: "the mini mart" presented by.... Junkyard and.... carcass & hosted by the foundry 101 rogers st. Cambridge mass 2/20 6-8pm. The poster image is a black and white line drawing of a scene which contains bones, flies, a tv, a house and shooting stars. Overlayed text reads "tomorrow!!" and points to the date and time with 3 finger emojis. Some product sample images in wiggly bubbles are on the outer edges, showing a colorful linocut print of a tiger in water, some patches including a pigeon with human breasts, and pins of a smug tiger and another pin of a snarling tiger surrounded by petals that say "gay as ever"

Slinging gay prints at Boston Hassle flea today, 12:30-5 at the Cambridge community center!!
Haha, no, I've never seen those beasts in my life. The pigeon is based on harpies and partially inspired by some local graffiti (wolftits) I saw and loved in Boston about 10 years ago
Thank you!! It was a pleasantly busy day :)))
I'm on that last minute grind again today, making new patches for the Boston Hassle flea this weekend!!
