I do sometimes wonder if B-R tacks on a new fake nickname every now and again just to see if we’re paying attention

He is certainly one of the top two players born in Akron
Madonna hasn’t had a No. 1 hit in 26 years. Her prime was 40+ years ago. That her catalog has held up enough that only *some* young people aren’t aware of her is actually very impressive.
Can’t say I knew many Perry Como tunes when I was in high school.
I spent a fair amount of time in Sacramento over the years. It’s better than many say. But also, the only times in 47 years I can remember anyone hyping it up in a real way were Deftones fans (lol) and the movie Ladybird.
Minor league uniforms for a team in a minor league park. Seems perfect to this former Oaklander.
Those of us whose eyes don’t track together learn a *lot* about how many people view us by looking at social media comments when anyone with our condition does something people don’t like.
A helpful tip: Unless the person fell down an escalator, their nontracking eyes probably aren’t the issue.
Probably gonna find a way to work “I’ve had 1.5 million words published in The New York Times” into casual conversation
What a neat project. Can’t say I agree with the editorial decisions that led to me having more bylines since 2000 than titans like George Vecsey and John Branch, but I’m pretty proud of this output for someone who has always had duties that primarily weren’t writing tedalcorn.github.io/nyt/
I was so sad when Vince Carter and Dirk retired. It was nice having NBA players who were at least slightly older than me
The goal post moving here and the doubling and tripling down is wild.
Could have been solved with a reply of “geez, I guess it was all mid-40s and early-50s people saying it and there is no questioning that they did, but false memories are a problem elsewhere.”
An update that he then tried to make himself right by:
A. Changing from talking about people who claim to have seen it (mostly people around my age, in my experience) to % of total population
B. Inflating the U.S. population at the time by 100 million
Sometimes it’s just ok to have been wrong.
Houston without a rental car. There may be fun or exciting things to do, but the sprawl is relentless and even with a car it didn’t seem like it would be manageable for someone who isn’t from there.
I can’t believe this is still up three days later. I either watched it happen live, buddy, or my school thought it would be hilarious to show a snuff film and watch a bunch of kids cry.
Things can get pretty bleak, but taking an unused area of a high school and turning it into an outdoor classroom, with older scouts teaching younger scouts to use power tools and everyone enjoying the t-shirt weather and talking about the future was pretty dang great.
I’d noticed him go quiet on social but this was a shock
The mall from the county where I went to college is nearly empty and is being auctioned off. Trying to figure out how to subtly let my family know it would be a cool Father’s Day gift. lostcoastoutpost.com/2026/apr/1/l...
Just got an $83 check for an NBA Top
Shot court case of some sort. I think I spent $9 on the Top Shot that got me included.
Am I the world’s most successful NFT investor?
After the game I made the incredible decision of meeting my girlfriend at her office, hammered, bloated & sunburned. She needed to stop at a housewares place and I wandered away and came back with that scoop to her amusement/horror.
But hey, nearly 20 years later my kids absolutely love that thing.
Long before 9-9-9, me and some friends made a deal at a day game at old Yankee Stadium where we’d each get a beer and a dog every time a vendor came by. The vendors figured this out.
Did we do >9 of each? I assume. And that, my friends, is how I ended up with a cow head ice cream scoop.
I remember calling a bunch of NYT Sports people over to my desk to watch his first major league at-bat and having him promptly hit a 470-foot dinger.
What’s disturbing is the fact that it feels like that was just a few years ago.
Really wild the percentage of newsroom space that was dedicated just to monitors in the late 90s/early 00s
Among the things where I want to believe there is rigorous (to the point of absurdity) product testing, ice climbing axes rate pretty high
Not generally one to suggest that random AI finance apps being pushed on social media should be more ambitious with their promises, but it's hard to see people getting too excited about a ... 2.56 percent return on their $100K investment.
This @tylerkepner.bsky.social piece on .300 hitters gets at the heart of the issue where, yes, pitching is way better. But also, the game doesn't pay for average. If Luis Arraez got a $100 million deal, instead of a 1-year deal, maybe guys would adjust their approach. www.nytimes.com/athletic/714...
I think his gutters are in better shape than mine. And I’m jealous of his two-car garage, especially since viewers of the show will know he kept it clean enough to park an enormous Plymouth Duster (that he called a Dodge for some reason) in there.
I’ve seen this before but really looked at the house this time and … man, as a homeowner Al was doing well. Roof and driveway are solid. Lawn is cut, hedges are fairly tidy.
The actual house, which is in the suburbs, is estimated at $650k. But in their world it was Chicago proper so … $1.5 million?
If I had a nickel for every Atlantic article published recently that was about stuff that did not actually happen and left me wondering “why does this article exist?” I’d have two nickels
The answer to this problem, it turns out, was not building a product that no one wanted
Gave him the opportunity to be inclusive and generous and he went with “I don’t engage in anything I can’t win.” I respected it.
When I asked Kobe about it he was so ... pragmatic?
