I'm experienced in trying to survive, and it's not a rosy picture. One church here that offered help gave us a box of corn flakes, a can of green beans, a can of peaches and a box of shelf stable milk. Who can survive on that? But they felt really good about themselves. Sent out a press release.

We are disabled shut ins. We can't wait in hours-long food lines in the best of times. Meals on Wheels was shut down during COVID and never brought back. The protestant churches in our community are right wing, not helping. Privileged people always assume there's easily available help. There's not.

I hate to be that guy, but those resources are really bad here. Too many people assume what you're saying is true and write off the people suffering because we're "just not looking for help hard enough." Our food bank will serve you twice a month. They don't deliver. They don't give you much food.

The answer to 3/4 of questions I get asked is "we can't afford that."

By the time the stupid ballroom is built they're going to have to use it as a food bank.

Seriously though - I got a 1/2 inch red heart with black outline on my upper back when I was about 27. I'm 60 now, I have gained and lost a lot of weight repeatedly, as one does. As much as 50 lbs. That thing is still perfectly symmetrical. The outline makes it very obvious. Very little fading too.
