A bold graphic reading “For Immediate Release: Post-Gazette journalists call on new owner to follow federal law, restore trust with Pittsburgh community.” Below, smaller text explains that the Venetoulis Institute, owner of the Baltimore Banner, has acquired the Pulitzer Prize–winning Pittsburgh Post-Gazette staff but plans job cuts. The lower half shows a man speaking into a microphone in front of a seated audience at a town hall.
We are excited for this historic institution to survive!
A lot is still unsettled and we will continue to support our members who are fighting to be paid back from the Block’s illegal behavior.
That liability does not go away with the sale of the paper.
Black copy on a white background from a Post-Gazette article published today reads: The Post-Gazette newsroom currently stands around 100. The new iteration of the PG going forward might need to start out smaller, Mr. Bainum said. “The Post-Gazette’s current business model does not support the size of the current newsroom,” he said. “We’re going to have to thoughtfully address that. “We’re learning as we go, so we certainly don’t have all the answers,” he said.
We are very, very glad that the PG is surviving! We’re eager to turn over a new leaf with new owners who value journalism, and respect Pittsburgh.
We’re also concerned by the new ownership's public statements regarding job cuts.

#USA: ProPublica journalists and media workers went on strike to demand job protection, decent pay and restrictions on job replacements with AI. We reiterate that AI cannot replace journalists and cannot be used as a justification for lay-offs. @newsguild.org www.ifj.org//media-centr...

@propublica.org management: This is your sign to give us a fair contract now. We’re not shutting up.
Workers at ProPublica went on strike yesterday to send a message: it’s time for a fair contract!
Solidarity with @propublicaguild.org as they fight for AI guardrails, workplace protections, fair wages and a pro-worker ProPublica.

🚨 ON STRIKE 🚨
Unionized staff at ProPublica @propublicaguild.org walked off the job today.
Stand with workers: DO NOT cross the picket line.
That means no visiting ProPublica's website, social media or engaging with its content today.
I hate that contract negotiations are not going better, but this is where we are. Today my colleagues and I @propublica.org are walking out. We need management to come to the table with more serious contract proposals that address our real concerns about discipline, job protections and fair wages.
Good morning! All day today my colleagues and I will be on STRIKE. You can help us send a message! Please do not visit ProPublica's website and tell management to give us a fair contract so we can get back to work: actionnetwork.org/petitions/te...
Please support our union’s work toward a fair contract by NOT crossing our digital picket line! That means not visiting @ProPublica.org today, April 8.
(And please resume your support of @ProPublica.org all other days, we love the journalism we do!)
We're on strike! Don't visit propublica.org on April 8
We’re on strike today! Support our fight for a fair contract by NOT visiting the @propublica.org website or engaging with ProPublica stories today.

Screenshot of the following headline and subhed: McClatchy Journalists Revolt Against AI: ‘It’s a Betrayal’ | Exclusive Sacramento Bee staffers refuse bylines over a new AI tool as colleagues at the Miami Herald and Charlotte Observer harbor concerns
Unionized journalists at the Sacramento Bee stand united against McClatchy’s latest AI “articles” initiative. We have withheld our bylines from these stories because we do not want the public to think this is being done in our name — it’s not. We think it’s disgusting.
It’s not that complicated. Ethical journalism depends on ethical protections.
1/ After 28 months of bargaining our first contract, @propublica.org management continues to take unacceptable positions on the issue of artificial intelligence.
NewsGuild president @jschleuss.com to @propublica.org: Readers deserve News, not Slop!
ProPublica needs contract language that prohibits AI from replacing the journalists who make ProPublica the important publication it is today!
