One of the first things I said after midnight was, “Now I can say my book is coming out this year!” “My” book has beautifully grown into “Our book” with Charles Santoso, and I couldn’t be more excited for you all to see our work later this year! I’m positively swooning over the whole thing. ❤️🩷🤍❤️🩷🤍

I just found this in the bookstore and recognized your name! We used to trade manuscripts, ever so long ago. So I’m buying this, OBVIOUSLY. Yay! Congrats!

What a delight to find one of my poems here on the longlist for Renee LaTulippe’s Lyrical Language Lab’s summer poetry contest! ❤️ #kidlit #kidlitpoetry

I’m creepy internet searching now to see if I can somehow tell her about my poetry and upcoming book, because if anyone believed in my writing, it was her.

About 17.5 years ago, as an adult about to get married, I ran into my 5th grade teacher in a coffee shop near my elementary school. She recognized me as one of her students. As soon as I told her my name, she knew just who I was and told me she still had some of my poems. 🥹

😬😬 Girl, clean that algorithm out! Your brain deserves at least equal parts whimsy alongside whatever we would call 2025 comment sections ❤️

Thanks! I think I just don’t use this as much as I’d like to. I’m betting my lack of interaction has me not showing up to my people (or most people) very well. 😅

I’m always delighted to find copies of The School Magazine in my mailbox. Two of my latest poems from May, illustrated by Peter Sheehan (website at PeterSheehan.com), and Michel Streich (website at MichelStreich.com). I’m just the luckiest gal in the world, I think, to get to share words with kids.

It’s one of my favorite poems! These scalliwag sloths, aptly illustrated by Greg Holfeld, be bucaneerin’ from the pages of the April issue of Touchdown, from the ever wonderful The School Magazine.

Hello out there! I have a critique partner who has put together this awesome project: A book for every birthday! I’ve seen the books and they are pretty cool, and would make great children’s birthday gifts. Please check out and share with interested parties!

I kept thinking I hadn’t received my contributor copy yet, when lo and behold, it was on my counter the whole time…just upside down so I didn’t recognize it! So happy to find my first Highlights publication hiding in plain sight!

Joy found me in my mailbox today! These beautiful February issues of Touchdown, Blast Off, and Countdown from @theschoolmagazine made me smile. I have poems in each, with fabulous illustrations (the most important part!) from @christophernielsen, @tohbyriddle, and @askastorytelling, respectively.

Do you know @littlethoughtspress.com? This is an affordable, intentional, and transparent literary publication for kids…and they publish kids’ writing and illustrations, too! Seeing kids engage with words and pictures makes my heart sing. Here is one of my poems in their November issue.

I did a thing this year! I’m super proud of myself for keeping up a practice of writing children’s poetry (almost) every day of 2024.

I’m so thrilled to have received this spread from The School Magazine’s November issue of Touchdown. I had the most fun writing this poem, and am beyond thrilled with how Alen Timofeyev (insta: @alenartworks) brought all the whimsical chaos to life!

I haven’t been able to sleep AND I’m sick AND I’ve been feeling blah about all the things…but unexpectedly getting to see some preliminary artwork for my first Highlights family contribution has mysteriously made me feel SO much better! #kidlit #poetry #LifeGoals

Here’s the first part of a Santa rap:

Hey yo! I’m Santa! I’m a jolly old elf
I say “Ho Ho Ho” and I cram myself
down the chimneys with the presents
for the little girls and boys!
Yeah I eat all the cookies and
I bring all the toys!

I just went ahead and preordered this one! We’ve been watching the series with our tweens weekly, just like my husband did growing up, and I know they’ll all get a kick out of this!

Poetry IS brilliant! While not all poetry for children rhymes, I love writing that way. So far, nothing makes my brain happier than the fabulous word puzzle that rhyming is.

Rhyming or not, poetry is wonderful. Want to read more? Here are some children’s poets you can follow.

Only if I don’t factor in the amount of time spent 😅
