I think about this all the time. Especially w/ it being legal now in my state. MANY of the people who got licenses to open dispos at first were either private equity or white folks. It has gotten better, but POC should have had first dibs bc they were on the front lines pushing for legalizing it

There are still far too many people in prison for non violent cannabis related charges btw; Marijuana as a term was used to intentionally malign BIPOC who consume cannabis. Black people are nearly 4 times more likely to be incarcerated for possession than white people, despite similar usage rates.

Both my father & my FIL are like this. Both of them give my husband a hard time for voting for Democrats. My FIL also makes digs about hubby's sexuality/gender tied to it, which is what really opened my eyes to this connection (my father only had afabs, so I escaped this indoctrinating thankfully)

I think there's also a 3rd, not as talked about thing w/ men in the US. For years, the Republican party has been targeting & feeding them propaganda about the kinds of men that vote for Democrats (gay & "emasculated" men). They now feel like their politics and gender are intertwined on some level

Really hate when straight people and non-Queer people (bc that's mostly who it is) try to police our community. Many of us started as staunch allies of the LGBTQ+ community before we deconstructed whatever we needed to from our upbringing. Also, it's not always safe for people to be openly out!!!
