The "early" date is just the actual release date, because that's the day when it's out for consumers to purchase and play through official means.
So this means that you can pay full price for a game and then be blocked from playing it until 3 days after it's release date. 🙃

I'm liking the look of HexOS but the regular pricing of $299 seems a bit steep. Any time I've built my own NAS instead of buying one, it has been to save money, and $299 for a NAS OS is the opposite of saving money.

It is very expensive for sure.
I can justify the price increase because Eaglemoss's strategy was clearly unsustainable. Fanhome need to charge more, but they also need to make a lot less of them so that they don't have a huge amount of capital tied up in inventory like EM did.
I didn't start collecting Eaglemoss ships until after they closed down and as I picked up ships through the liquidation sales I was kicking myself for not being subscribed back when the collection started. So the Fanhome sub gives me a 2nd chance to experience a ship subscription.

Big step, congrats!! I need to keep the Twitter going because sometimes companies contact me there with video requests. Although these days most of those requests are scams.
There's no such thing as "too fast" but you're not wrong about energy efficiency improvements being needed.
However, it is hard to get people excited about "improved power efficiency" in the same way you can about more performance.
I would also add to this that it's perfectly acceptable to mod a game to make it less difficult if that increases your enjoyment of the game.
The next few years are going to be rough.
