The place I often visit has this perfect perch and background for a kingfisher, and if you keep quiet, they aren't all that bothered. Took the 2X with me for once and got this guy to pose for me. ๐ชถ

I'm not yet very good at capturing scenes which, amongst my technically sound and pleasing photos, really stand out to me. However, I ๐ข๐ฎ slowly getting there. ๐ชถ

We get these in May, and they're so amazing to see close up.
I love them! Easily one of my favourite birds.
This kingfisher was sat there for something like 3 seconds. I got a couple photos, all blurry except this one. Sometimes you just need to get lucky, nothing else helps.

Great tit on a branch. On an out of focus background, a small bird stands on a branch. The bird is yellow with white cheeks, a black chin, and black stripe down the middle. It looks softly puffed up and is looking right at the camera.
Little guys like this are very curious and will often come close to check out the weirdo with a long tube.

I'm archiving my parents' music collection, and the amount of stuff that 'kind of matches but not really' is astounding
Shoutout to all airport security workers who are patient with me and my 5 cameras, 14 different batteries, rolls of film, laptop, and all the other crap you'd usually have while travelling.

Fox standing on a log looking at the camera.
Almost didn't get this photograph, on account of looking in the other direction. But I heard something moving behind me and turned just in time.
I've ready been asked three times if this was AI, so I guess I'm doing something right.

A kingfisher perches on a branch, looking left. The bird is around 15cm in length with a bright orange belly, black beak, and white spots on its turquoise head and wings.
Found this guy hanging out near a hide, just in time for a full ass sunrise. Love how the background turned out in almost the same colours as he. ๐ชถ

Happy birthday!
Thank you! It was a great encounter.
Small bird hanging sideways off a diagonal branch, looking to the right at some leaves. The bird is light brown and greenish, with a yellow stripe and two black stripes on its head.
Coming back from my summer downtime, and this one is a stunner! ๐ชถ
I don't have access to my usual software at the moment, so the highlights are nuked, but I still love this photo.
No kings, only kinglets.

I didn't consider it from that angle. That's a really cool interpretation!
I love foggy mornings. You really have to get close, but the photos turn out great.
Image of a small bird (slightly right off centre) clinging to a tree trunk (on the right hand side of the photo). The bird is light brown, with a white chin, black stripe across its eyes, and blue head. The tree is partially covered by moss. The left side of the photo is taken up by the tree's leaves.
Out of 500 or so photos, around 20 are with this guy in any kind of normal pose. In the rest, he's pointing straight up or down. Just nuthatch things.

Brown bird with large eyes standing on a branch, looking at the viewer. Directly behind are thicker tree branches and leaves. The background is green and grey.
Haven't posted in a while, but this latest one is a hoot! (ahahaha I'll be here all week)

Puffin facing right on a green field, lit by a setting sun, with a dark evening sky in the background. The bird has a black back, white front, white cheeks, a striped orange and red beak, and an orange bit just behind the beak. Its eyes are dark with a red outline and a darker patch of skin above and below.
The one. The only.

Finally got some good photos of one as it repeatedly dove into water nearby. 1/4000 was needed, many photos were discarded.

Hey! Thank you, please go right ahead :)
Three very round shore birds on dead branches just above water, on a very foggy morning.
As much as it pains me to admit it, and to the horror of my sleep schedule... Early mornings are my favourite time for taking photos.

Knew the Canon wasn't going to happen lol
Dark photo of a red umbrella under a window at the end of a hallway.
Blue and grey buildings against a blue sky.
Small snail making its way across a moss-covered wall.
Cars and trucks in a traffic jam on the highway.
Bit of a different post today - a selection from the pocket camera (Fuji F30) I took with me to work this week.
This kind of photography is very different to what I usually do, but it makes for a nice change of pace and some fresh perspective.

A heron pair flying in circles above trees, in early morning light.
April is turning out to be Heron Month.
This isn't Dennis (I think he's solo this year), but instead some neighbours of his that I watched fly over me several times. They finally decided to land and did this slow, dance-like descent onto the pond.

Grey heron standing upright on a riverbank.
Hi everyone, meet Dennis. Dennis is a Grey Heron living at a nearby pond.
Dennis starts its day by flying to this bank, looking for fish, catching nothing, then waddling off.
Dennis is, if nothing else, very persistent.

Common kingfisher (female) on a branch. Photographer from the back, facing left, observing the photographer.
I've noticed that my fondness for a particular bird is often (though not always) proportional to how skittish the damn things are.
Anyway, love Kingfishers.

Great Cormorant flying right, lit by the morning sun.
Motivational quip of the day: Always make the best of a situation.
More specifically, when you screw up and scare off a bird, at least try and get a decent photo as it flies away.
