I think it depends on the application. They’re astonishingly accurate at spotting the difference between “student actually tried to write for Wikipedia” and “student used an LLM for Wikipedia” in the WikiEd program. If you have a page number for where the correct date appears in Gimbel it would be an easy correction! It looks like wikipedia is currently citing Brittanica but a specialized bibliographical checklist would easily be a preferred source
