I miss my minivan so much! If one had been available in our price range when I needed a new car I would have gotten another one, but alas!

Something being full of meaning isn't trying to make you feel stupid it's trying to talk with you.

Re, last re-skeet:

I find that some folks endlessly faff around with world building and concept sketches and the like almost as an avoidance mechanism. If you're constantly "working on the world building" then you never have to actually get to the hard part - executing a good story.

Throwing a brick with a note taped to it reading "Game Setting worldbuilding and Singular Work of Fiction worldbuilding operate with different priorities, you need to stop adding detail to parts of the world your story will never have time to go to and start writing" into an aspiring writer forum

I relistened to Mesmerize/Hypnotize and American Idiot recently and was like "wow it would be great if these 20yo albums were not still painfully relevant"

Lol I had my annual physical today and they gave me the PHQ-9 and I'm like, "hi, yes, these answers do seem concerning but also my Dad just died so like, maybe we just don't count this one?"

โ€œI will NOT sacrifice the Oxford comma. We've made too many compromises already; too many retreats. They assimilate the em dash and we fall back. They capture โ€˜not just X but yโ€™ and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far, no further!โ€

I just hope the ordeal my family is currently slogging through proves to be a useful object lesson to someone out there.

Also, have a plan for your pets if you have them. We got so so lucky finding homes for my Dad's 60 gallon fish tank full of fish and his mean, geriatric cat.

Even if you don't want someone else to have access to your accounts while you're alive (the easiest solution, but FAIR if you can't/don't want to!) set up a death beneficiary on at least one account!

Yeah, EVENTUALLY all of the accounts will be released and we'll be repaid but in the meantime we have to cover everything ourselves. Final bills, funeral homes, cleaning, none of them can wait for that eventuality.

I hate to think of the kind of bind that this would put some folks in.

I know it sounds morbid but *PLEASE* have a plan/make sure your parents have a plan for someone to access accounts when you/they die.

Thankfully my sisters and I can handle it, but we are having to cover thousands of dollars of final expenses while my Dad's money is locked up in probate.

I really appreciate the extent to which folks are stepping up and helping us take care of things in the immediate aftermath of my Dad's death.

I am exhausted and my brain is soup. These incredible acts of kindness, big and small, are keeping me afloat right now.

It is fascinating to visit somewhere where I know so little of the local flora. Most anything I recognize growing outside in California I've only ever seen as a houseplant at home ๐Ÿคฃ

Yeah buddy, did YOU know I'm the Registrar of Voters for my town???

It is so funny to me when I get campaigners messaging me or door-knocking.

"Do you have a plan to vote?"

Yeah man, I'm running my town's freaking election. I should hope I've got it somewhat figured out ๐Ÿคฃ

I really believe *it is that deep*

If you struggle to empathize with complex, messy characters who have cruelty in their hearts, how are you going you react when you find cruelty in your own? Will you stuff it down and lie? Will you shame spiral? Or will learn to love the horrid parts of yourself?

I'm not the only one who can't get over how devastatingly handsome Ewan McGregor is in that National Geographic spot, right?

That man is aging like good whiskey.

3/15/1820 Maine officially became the 23rd state in the U.S. Union as part of the Missouri Compromise, separating from Massachusetts to enter as a free state. Recognized as Maine Statehood Day, this date marks Maine's official separation from Massachusetts after being a province since 1647.

I love comics, I love people that love comics, I love that I can talk to @cathygjohn.bsky.social for an hour and we both want to do research with comics, the world is simply better with comics and people who love comics
