A nice reminder from Ember, using British data. Wind and solar are complementary. Our system works best when you have both, each calling on their own strengths in terms of generation patterns.
If either struggles to grow like it should, we end up with a more expensive, slower fossil phase-out

The press release mentions that, just a week after announcing its electrification plan, France is already revealing details of some of the measures involved. We all know that no government could develop such a detailed plan in a week, but this is how political communication works.
This requires the installation pace of passenger car chargers to double.
To keep up with this pace, grid connections can be overbuilt, with a mechanism in place to spread the costs, so that the operation can 'grow into' the required capacity within 10 years without requiring additional DSO work.
France đ«đ· is aiming to increase the number of high-power public EV charging points alongs the main routes:
By 2035
22,000 150 kW chargers for đ at 900 motorway locations
8,000 chargers for đđ (mix of 800, 400 kW and 100 kW for long-duration) at
560 motorway locations
In 3 years from now, the AC V2G will hopefully be fully standardised, including clarity on grid codes (technical criteria set by the DNO for connecting demand & generation units to the grid). Likewise, cars will support it.
Until that point, weâre either stuck with locked solutions, or DC.
The Netherlands government is rumoured to be introducing an EV switch and old fossil car scrappage scheme for low- and mid-income households as part of its response to the fossil fuel price crisis.
Have you seen these...
For new AC chargers, the price difference for such a V2G capable one is small. But existing AC chargers (or onboard chargers in cars) will not work.

Although it's relatively late, the good news is that it's available for existing VW ID. cars â all the other offers only work with new electric cars.
Yes, big batteries-on-wheels can also do V2G.
On 24 April, there will be a live stream of a demonstration of a MAN electric truck doing bidirectional charging.
The batteries are bigger, the charging speeds are higher, and there are some interesting use cases involving depot charging infrastructure.
Ga je mij nu lopen mansplainen?
Perhaps when I eventually retire, Iâll write a book on the cultural history of German discount supermarkets and solar power as German export successes
A HUGE, narrative-breaking moment for the UK car market
New EVs are now cheaper than petrol cars on average, says Autotrader
Last yr CCC said price parity was due by 2028Â â and it's already here
And EVs are already MUCH cheaper to run than petrol

First power at Sofia wind farm!
That's now three of the four massive offshore wind farms at Dogger Bank generating electricity.
Grotere kans via DC.
Nee hoor, V2G mag gewoon in Nederland hoor.
You canât retrofit an onboard charger to do that. And AC V2G is still not fully standardised with regulatory approval, so unlikely to scale.
Plus youâd still need a new AC charging box, thereâs not backwards compatibility in AC V2G.
VWâs target pricing is 2,000 ⏠incl. VAT, so 2,5 yrs payback time
Unlikely that those will be âmuchâ cheaper. And above all, unlikely that existing vehicles can ever be used for AC V2GâŠ
DC BiDi Charger & Smart Meter
They will install it for you. Sign-up starts in June, so they can begin installing smart meters (and start the process for collecting dataâŠ.)
Yes, so itâs good that users are now setting off to travel to that border! Then that discussion can take place too.
It seems to be about the vehicleâs lifespan, but no one has got that far yet, so what happens when that limit is reached?
BTW.
Zeit was the first to cover this news. Estimated savings are 700 ⏠/ year. (900 for new customers, but I donât consider a switching bonus an actual savingâŠ) - which Elli thinks would cover 10,000 km of âfreeâ driving.
Over 2 million Volkswagen electric vehicles have been produced, plus more under the Ć koda, Audi and Cupra brands. Nearly all of these have not previously been used for bidirectional charging, but could now be used for this purpose (at least in Germany).
Volkswagen has been close to announcing a V2G offer for so long that, had vehicles started using bidirectional charging from the time of the earliest announcement, they would probably have reached the 4,000-hour/10,000-kWh limit (that Volkswagen imposes on their ID. vehicles) by now.
Although Volkswagen was the first German car manufacturer to release bidirectional charging functionality in their vehicles, they are behind BMW, Mercedes and Ford (whose EVs use VW technology) in terms of announcing an actual charger and tariff bundle in Germany.
