I learned recently that it’s an insult in Germany to call someone “hobbyless” or to engage in “hobbyless behavior” and it’s become my favorite way to think of assholes who have nothing better to do than to make other people miserable. Get a hobby. Build a model train and calm down.

Fellow San Jose/South Bay residents, ai data centers are coming for us, but we still have a chance to stop them!

Ilovesanjose.org has a petition and a prewritten email to send to the city council. Let’s stop them before they build anything.

If you look closely and watch the Goldeneye's eye, you can see his nictitating membrane (or third eyelid) doing its work a couple of times before the duck dives into the water. Video is slowed down so that you can see things more clearly. #wildlife #birds

Thanks to announcements about the movie CAPTURING BIGFOOT, the online #bigfoot community has ramped up its normal in-fighting and disagreeing to nuclear proportions, with Facebook groups having massively increased engagement (this graph from CCTBR). Interesting timing in view of my own writing.

I've been saying this! You don't even need scientific papers, only a couple well-placed posts online and two hours to make AIs spit it out uncritically

Hard to believe that in what used to be one of world’s most prestigious newspapers, neither the NYT writers nor editors appear to know what the not-so-obscure acronym NATO stands for.
(Hint: it’s *not* the below)

BTW, a whopper like this probably would get you fired from a college paper in Ireland.

Gonna keep banging this drum but Indie Animation CANNOT survive on YouTube, the platform that can WITHOUT NOTICE change its algorithm or or deny you the audience you need to make your show sustainable.

Three totally unrelated statements:

1: we look at the people in the past who have committed necessary violence against unreasonable oppressors for the sake of human rights as heroes.

2: something being illegal doesn’t make it immoral.

3: billionaires are causing lots of problems, aren’t they?

It's so bad that we've reached a point where members of Congress casually discuss stripping citizenship from and deporting people because they don't like their views.

A bipedal red fox paints a rainbow across the sky. They have a determined look on their face.

To the right of the rainbow are segments of text from newspaper articles about grim news for LGBTQIA+ folks, especially trans folks.

On the left, there are flowers on the ground, with butterflies flittering about. The discouraging words are illegible faint smudges.

The pure white Snow Petrel is easily one of the most distinctive seabirds of the Southern Ocean. Especially beautiful when found among icebergs but I not so fortunate this time. South Georgia 🪶🦑

Sure:
Light rail, high speed rail, ocean wave generation, solar power generation, wind generation, heat pump tech, geothermal heat pump tech, last mile on-demand transit solutions, better wheelchairs, better wheel chair lifts, better flexible seating on public transit, maker spaces, tool libraries.
