Are environmental reviews really a problem?

Well, folks, consider: a Sam's Club on north Aurora (near where I live) closed several years ago. Been sitting vacant, attracting ... the stuff vacant buildings attract. There's a proposal to open a low-cost grocery there. Much needed! However ...

"The masters of war pretend not to know that it takes only a moment to destroy, yet a lifetime is often not enough to rebuild. . . . billions of dollars are spent on killing and devastation, yet the resources needed for healing, education and restoration are nowhere to be found."

France passed a law requiring solar panels on every parking lot with more than 80 spaces.

Equals 10 nuclear reactors
Reduces heat island, shades cars

The US -- 800 million parking spaces. Most of them are uncovered asphalt sitting in direct sunlight.

Why aren't we doing this?

The consternation over Somerville parking permits going up $10 and Cambridge going up $50 has me going lol. You live in one of the densest parts of the country??

Something very annoying is how people misrepresent the position of advocates as, "You want everyone to bike!"

No, we want everyone to have a multitude of safe, efficient, accessible, and affordable options, whether that's bikes, scooters, trains, buses...or simply walking.

Fair enough! I would love to see the building (or at least the land) used for something good for the city -- and in the hands of someone who would actually do the promised developing (unlike ... as the post points out, the empty lot at Notre Dame ... or, as alluded, the left field building et al).

WHS: Editorial: Step on UP Folks! This is the MACHINE in ACTION. DEMOLITION CRAZY WORCESTER just CANT WAIT to DEMOLISH our HISTORY and our CULTURE. They can't call it out FAST ENOUGH! Where are the PUBLIC MEETINGS to engage the PUBLIC on the future of DENHOLMS that the City just HAD to INSERT themselves AND US (ie: OUR MONEY) in? Seemingly at the behest of the VERY SAME PEOPLE that DEMOLISHED Notre Dame FOR NO REASON other than probably not wanting to pay TAXES on the building (Corporate Welfare at its WORST and MOST SELFISH). All when Notre Dame was USED and ABUSED as a historical factor FEE and TIME waiving process for City Square (Corporate WELFARE for Billion Dollar Insurance and Investment Companies) only to BACKSTAB US and DEMOLISHED her anyway when many many people wanted to SAVE Notre Dame. Wasn't that the reason for the 7 million dollar DISCOUNT?? Thats what the Bishop said in the paper at the time HANOVER smashed her up - STAINED GLASS and ALL - as the City played ball with the RED SOX on the back steps of City Hall at the VERY SAME MOMENT. The land has been EMPTY ever since (ie: NO GOOD REASON) At least we had PUBLIC MEETINGS - albeit "cloak and dagger" style...not like now under a PRETENSE that Denholms is NOT HISTORICAL or CULTURALLY Important or eligible for the National Register (how about it Worcester? LETS HAVE A VOTE!) WE THE PEOPLE OWN THIS BUILDING! Maybe the People DONT WANT DEMOLITION and think an adaptive reuse would be in order- like a Multi Cultural Center - City Hall Annex and DENHOLM McKay /Boston Store MUSEUM - tourist worthy- and a CAFE like the olden days! MAYBE? (CPA Fund Worthy??? a "two for" -the building AND the ESCALAIRE- if not- WHAT IS?)How would we know with ZERO public Meetings. Are we not "ON THE HOOK" for a gazillion dollar Minor League Baseball Park that we CANT AFFORD?? Canal business closing like the funnel effect the "study" said would happen. We are SELLING PROPERTIES to PAY that PIPER. Now we have all the money ...

yes let's keep the dilapidated building right in downtown for as long as possible instead of building a mixed use building or housing 🙄

Reddit - The heart of the internet Please join me at the Economic Development meeting at Doherty High on May 13th at 5pm for the latest battle between Thoughtful Urbanism and Reckless Incompetence.

I can recognize the environmental argument, and freely admit I know little about its mechanics, but this is the second large residential project this year being opposed — the first being behind the glass tower. We need new residential development everywhere

“Remoting any of the existing parking is anti-business…” Sanginario said. “The idea behind this is that there will be people walking and not driving which is unrealistic. This isn’t Florida, Arizona, or California.”

Give me a friggen break lol

Millions of American voters wanted to be villains. They came to believe it’s the key to success, while goodness is weak, woke, loser stuff, done only to signal.

Offered the option of unvarnished villainy, they enthusiastically took it. Seeing others suffer more made them feel big.

And here we are.
