Just finished your excellent book. I’ve shared quotes from it on my social media as well. I grew up in Tulsa, and the attitudes of many in your book reminded me of my family and in some cases still does.

Here Are the Nearly 2,500 Medical Research Grants Canceled or Delayed by Trump Some cuts have been starkly visible, but the country’s medical grant-making machinery has also radically transformed outside the public eye.

“I think people should know that research that they probably would support is being canceled,” said Eden Tanner, a Mississippi chemist who had been working on a novel approach for treating glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

I keep thinking of @jonathanmetzl.bsky.social's book Dying of Whiteness, which basically talks about how a good chunk of white people will knowingly vote against their own (heath) interests due to racial resentment. They would rather get sick and die than allow BIPOC folks access to these programs.
