Thanks Rin!!
Yes! Iβm excited to get it out, just needs to go through the asset store approval process and all that jazz
Yup!
Using vertex colours (RGBA) to blend between 4 individual tiling textures!
Being compared to OG n64-era Rare in any sense is a compliment I will take! π
This is Unity, with models made in Maya. But u can do it in whatever softwareβ just gotta use lowpoly models with low res textures
my vertex painter tool is almost readyπ
(aka i have been consumed by feature creep)
cooking a lil n64-style demo scene πΌ
Its #wishlistwednesday
We are making our first game, Trash City Turbo!
Its a fun arcade experience about cleaning up a dinky cyberpunk city in your souped up road sweeper!
You can find us on Steam here - store.steampowered.com/app/4484260/...

Canβt quite use alpha to blend to another _material_, but my environment shader uses alpha to blend between two _textures_ at least. Then you just separate meshes/materials for each texture-duo you have. Thats how Banjo did it anyway!
yeah I tried using probuilder first but idk if it changed dramatically since I last used it but it wasβ¦ not as good an experience as I remember π
thanks vivs!!!!
the features i added were purely driven by what *I* would want as an artist
- paint per channel (RGBA) or all at once
- replace/add paint modes with brush opacity
- eyedrop tool to sample vertex colours and mass-replace one colour to another
- save/load snapshots
- undo/redo
since Unity doesn't have a vertex painting tool anymore, I've been working on my own! i've not dabbled with the asset store before but is this something ppl would be interested in if i put it up for sale cheap? π
Yes!
itβs trippy! π΅βπ«
nothing super fancy to show tonight, just some classic n64 style stair-ramps and 2D alpha-clipped railing textures π
Love animated decals! This looks great!
yeah! unity deprecated theirs and i couldn't find one on the asset store that i liked so i'm making my own!
haha that's the next thing on my list to work on for my tool. right now it doesn't support undo/redo or have any way of keeping existing vertex colours should the model get reimported. thinking of creating some data structure that records the WS pos of verts and uses that to re-apply vert values?
peak workflow! so much fun and you can get so much variety from so few textures
banjo kazooie's godlike use of vertex colouring is the epitome of 'trust the process'
vertex colours and low-res textures my beloved π₯°
this is unity, and just doing basic decal stuff and rotating them according to nearby / global lights!
thanks Tahl!!
