Book cover of the book "Egypt's Mediterranean" by Zoe Griffith. It is an artist's rendition of a view from a balcony overlooking palm trees and boats.
Hi everyone! My book, Egypt's Mediterranean, came out with @ucpress.bsky.social on Tuesday 💙💛 It's a new look at how Egypt fit into the political economy of the Ottoman Empire and eastern Mediterranean.
Please enjoy the *beautiful* cover art by Mohamed Gohar (@mohamed.gohar on IG)
OK, fellow early modernists, this I'm teaching the grad seminar on early modern Europe for the first time in 5 years. What monographs in English, preferably in paperbook/ebook formats, can you recommend that work well in seminar instruction? And thanks! #earlymodern 🗃️
En mai 2026
En France aux Editions La Découverte le 7 mai et en Algérie aux [éditions barzakh] le 10 mai.
Looking for a third person to join a panel for WSFH in Memphis. Currently both papers touch on the Dreyfus Affair and after, organized roughly around moral claims and political action. 🗃️
This looks incredible - but can we also talk about how French academic books are 12 Euros and you can find them in actual bookstores?
You should be proud - think of the power your child has 😂
Congratulations, Judith!
Also, I think you have your book cover...
Exciting! Congratulations!
Thank you - it's so wonderful to be back!
I saw CRS out in full force today near Montmartre (even though I didn't see any demonstrations in the area)
I'm catching up on this today, as France is also in the midst of a wave of anti-Black racism - directed here against the new mayor of Saint-Denis, Bally Bagayoko. Big protest in Saint-Denis in support - and I'm seeing if anyone has posted on here the statement by Dominique de Villepin from X.
I'm honoured and thrilled to see my book on the shortlist, in excellent company, for the CHA's Best Scholarly Book in Canadian History Prize! @mcgillqueensup.bsky.social
It was a pleasure to participate in this month’s Docalogue on #Orwell2+2=5. George Orwell and Raoul Peck are both 🔥 right now.
Check out my latest, alongside AJ Bauer’s take! ⬇️
Congratulations!
Book cover shows an alleyway in a Rio favela, the black and white photo has been given a bluish tinge; my name is upper left, the title of the book "Poverty of the Imagination" is at lower left and at right, in reddish text is the subtitle "The Cold War and the Social Science of Development in Latin America"
Your humble servant has a written a book about the social science of poverty in Cold War Latin America and the contexts that shaped its creation, from international sources like the Ford Foundation to dictatorships across the region. The book is in production and will be ready at the end of 2026
Attention historians of medicine and/or France: according to the @hfrancewebsite.bsky.social email list, moves are underway to dismantle the incredible Medica-Histoire de la santé digital collection (BIU Santé Médicine). Oppose this move by filling out the "Enquête de satisfaction" at the link🗃️
A book cover with title in red text at top, Revolutionary Warfare, author name at middle in red text, Terrence G. Peterson, and a large globe-shaped map in the bottom half with red, black, and blue circulating arrows.
Great praise for @tgpeterson.bsky.social's "Revolutionary Warfare" has arrived, noting its "valuable contribution to the historiography of the Algerian War, counterinsurgency, & the persistent failure of colonizers to understand the societies they dominate." www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/epdf/10....
@annakornbluh.bsky.social
J'y était!
You're so kind - thank you!
Very much looking forward to reading @pgoldsworthy.bsky.social's book Colonial Negatives: Picturing History and Identity in Morocco www.cornellpress.cornell.edu/book/9781501...
Congratulations, Thomas!
Some thoughts on French local elections: general dynamic confirms "quadripolar" fragmentation of French politics (see my article on this from 2022 below). It's *very* difficult to use these elections to predict 2027, but... 1/

Not only were race science and race medicine mainstream — they were *prestigious* and buoyed along by scientific academies, colonial administrators, and ordinary readers. I published an article in HWJ about surgeons using race-making to boost their careers. academic.oup.com/hwj/article-...
Thank you!
