Marathon update: With level-based matchmaking, I have played enough that I am now in the unstructured "high level player" blob. Consequently, the cheating is now getting impossible to avoid. Way too many players can spot you through 300m+ fog, see through walls, and do not experience recoil.

Anyway, I hope they fix some of these issues. I think reducing the effectiveness of higher tier items would go a long way, and generally flattening the power growth to keep cheap loadouts viable.

Other issues exist, but they’re fixable. Recon is worse than useless, with an ult that might as well summon nearby players to fight. An explosive tick with terrible pathfinding just adds to the joke.

This feels like the fundamental issue with the game’s design and incentives. Why would I go to the ship where I will likely lose everything? I can just hole up on Perimeter, shoot these nerds, and maybe one of them will give me a shiny item they got from Cryo. It’s just easier.

The game is designed so players accrue items through the week, play Cryo on weekends, and there you generally lose your cool gear you got.

And there is just no counter to a player who decides to just never go to the Lose Everything Ship. The will just keep accruing more with no release valve.

This isn’t just me losing some runs. There’s been a consistent thing in the lower-risk areas where you are matched with a premade team with advanced gear who don’t mind just sitting at a choke point and killing everyone.

When their shield is 2+ tiers above my gun, a full mag dump won’t even pop it.

Turns out my initial feeling of “this is like sandbox MMO PvP” was maybe a little too right! The game is suffering from issues where a small subset of players are basically pulling ahead and becoming impossible to kill.
