Last week, BART was honored with the Legacy Award at the 2026 East Bay Innovation Awards hosted by the East Bay Economic Development Alliance in recognition of our long history of innovation and bold foresight. Our GM Bob Powers had the honor of accepting the award.
The congressman got to see BART’s efforts to improve cleanliness and safety and meet the workers who make the system run every day. We thank the congressman for making the time to come out and for his support of BART.

This morning, Congressman Mark DeSaulnier joined directors Mark Foley and Matthew Rinn as well as BART executive leadership, police, and frontline workers for a tour of stations in his district.

Employees gave presentations and answered questions about the inner workings of the agency, while engineers and transportation staff set up booths around the room with cool equipment the kids could touch and explore.
During the annual event, participants and their families spent the entire afternoon at BART, not just to record the announcements, but to learn about the system directly from staff.
Listen closely to the PA announcements in BART stations; you might just hear the voice of one of BART’s biggest fans.
For Autism Acceptance Month in April, 12 local youth on the autism spectrum recorded announcements which will play every 15 minutes at select stations through the end of the month.

Clara was an activist with deep roots in Oakland’s Chinatown. The building’s Chinese name, 陳依妙明光大廈, combines her Chinese name, Ming Quong (Radiant Light) and Residences. Ming Quong, Radiant Light, is a nod to Clara’s community impact and the name of the Girl’s Orphanage that used to be on this site.
We celebrated the topping out of the Lake Merritt TOD Senior Affordable Housing building last week with East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation and they unveiled the big news … the building will be named the Clara E. Chan Lee Residences!
Young adult teams from transit agencies in North America will compete with ideas on how to make transit better.
