Herald: The Interactive Period Drama – Complete Edition Review The journey on the HLV Herald was a perilous one, fraught with danger and mystery. And while the journey loses a bit of the wind in its sails by the end, it was still one worth making.

good art does not always seek to make a point, but bad art regularly seeks to avoid making one

Hmm, yeah it’s hard. I can’t think of any movie from Eastern Europe with this particular scene. But the Werner Herzog style and the era of filmmaking you describe seem to align with Tarkovski. You could look at works by him or similar creators of the time who might have taken inspiration from him.

There is also a lot of obscure Eastern European stuff that might have aired once and then never again. Was it in any way lavish and high production value? If not, then it might just be some lost old tv show nobody knows about anymore. :/

The only period movie from Eastern Europe I know that has murder on stairs is Battleship Potemkin, but I’m sure it’s not that either. Because you probably know that one.

Софья Перовская (драма, реж. Лео Арнштам, 1967 г.)
Софья Перовская (драма, реж. Лео Арнштам, 1967 г.) YouTube video by Киноконцерн "Мосфильм"

This is the entire movie btw. But yeah it does not contain your murder on the steps scene. It is about a political assassination of a Tsar.

Haha ok. Well the only Soviet Era film that I can think of that vaguely fits your description is Sofiya Perovskaya from 1967. Other than that, no clue either… :(

Do you know what language it was in, because that narrows it down a lot. Movies set in Eastern Europe in English are way rarer than movies from Eastern Europe itself of course.

What I love about #pokopia over other #pokemon games, is that it made the ugly ducklings so endearing. Most Poké games, especially the battle ones, make me feel like I want to use the cool or cute ones only. But in Pokopia all of them have character beyond just looks. Which is good narrative design!

This is not particularly unique to games, good book series or tv shows have this too. It’s a well studied phenomenon in storied media, and it is a part of Aristotle’s theory of catharsis.

News panels on #US television are so weird… It feels like I’m watching the political conversations of some random people at the #bar down the street. Has this thing become so common in the US because they lack third places? Has this become the rural boomer’s substitute for hanging out with people??

And queer people who have been in the industry for quite a while now don’t want to go to the USA right now either. 😕 I know many who feel the same way as I do, genderqueer individuals especially don’t feel safe going.

Loneliness is horrible though. Framing loneliness as a problem of incels can also be damaging to real issues within our communities that do need addressing. It’s easy to paint society with broad strokes and hot takes, but it takes courage to throughly research where this phenomenon starts and ends.
