I don't know why this is so hard for some people to grasp. If we extend our use of fossil gas, rather than going all-out for grid batteries, heat pumps and induction hobs, we extend our dependence on *foreign* sources of gas, regardless of whether we also use the UK's last remaining reserves. 🧵

These stories are 7 years apart. It not only illustrates Marx’s theory of capital as a “vampire” (literally), but also how it progressively erodes working-class life:

“Accumulation of wealth at one pole is…at the same time accumulation of misery…at the opposite pole.”

Ever wonder why most of the media provide wall-to-wall coverage of everything the far right does or says, while ignoring far bigger rallies and events and far more interesting discussions elsewhere on the political spectrum?
There's no mystery. It's because they want the far right to triumph.

We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art, and very often in our art, the art of words.

The Story of Capital For decades, David Harvey has been teaching Marx's work, particularly Capital, to great acclaim. He has analysed chapter by chapter - sometimes line-by-line - Marx's three volumes and the Grundrisse. ...

Karl Marx died on 14 March 1883.

In my new book, I set out to illustrate the utility of Marx’s method as well as of his concrete theorisations by putting my understanding of them to work in analysing contemporary events and issues.
