@gavreilly.com Meath County Council spends less than half per person on recreation and amenities than other local authorities. This may because it advises residents that they’re responsible for paying for grass cutting in public areas. 1/2

Who in Ireland pays for cutting the grass in public areas? What’s happening in Navan and why might it be important for you? 1/2 @news.rte.ie @virginmedianews.bsky.social @mcculld.bsky.social @gavinjennings.bsky.social @irishtimes.com @meathchronicle.bsky.social

And further, when the government is consistently handling ongoing and chronic crises such as housing, homelessness, health service, etc, etc, we have to recognise that maybe the government vision isn’t about resolving crises, but that their policy decisions exacerbate them.

I’ve seen the same comment about lack of vision levelled at the FF/FG government, which seems to be only react (poorly) to situations rather than positing any coherent vision about what the direction they’re leading. What is their vision? It’s an easy accusation to make.

Please be conscious that there are petitions going around that may appear to be calling for something you want, but for very different reasons than yours.

Absolutely magical. Handel's Messiah on Dublin's Fishamble Street this lunchtime, 284 years after it was first performed. Proinnsías Ó Duinn, 85 years young conducting, a living legend.

Probably more important to assess and examine the weaknesses of the state in being able to respond to organisation and coordination though apps such as WhatsApp, etc. Surely conspiring to execute a blockade of ports and refineries is a criminal offence in itself.

The thing that makes me angry about these protests is that for Repeal, we had to go out and knock on doors and be polite to people who thought we were the devil for months and these guys can just dump a tractor in the street and get what they want in five days.

#FuelProtests in Navan today. Not sure who’s speaking. They say government hasn’t engaged, but how many have reached out to their local representatives? Who is speaking? Whose voices are being heard? Who is making noise and sowing discord?

Noisy protest in Navan today. This is exhausting.

Just seen an invite to sign a petition for general election in neighbourhood WhatsApp group. The image features Michael D, presumably understood as our current president. Such nonsense, dangerous nonsense though. These idiots are making my blood boil #fuelprotests

How Ireland's far-right movement got involved in the fuel protests and tried to hijack them While many are protesting fuel costs, far-right actors and international figures are using the movement to push anti-immigrant narratives.

What a well written article that details the far-right element of the fuel protests. Well worth a read.

I really do believe this is true. I'm sure that not everybody who turned up to protest has fascist leanings, but if you pulled your truck up next to one that said "Ireland for the Irish" and you don't leave, are you better than the owner of that truck?

Can someone please ask Gov if a tax clearance cert will be needed to collect on these?

Relieved to read that the Gardaí are taking action. None of the “demands” should be met. No one should be rewarded for this kind of disruption unruliness.
