To be fair, it's an image based project and some of them are before/afters. And it's been a sprawling project so there's lots of things we need to show. Still, some slides have 3 or 4 images and we're gonna end up at about 60 slides so I will be glaring at colleague to keep to time!

I accidentally spent another hour on it but now I think that's 90% of the work done, and it's not even needed for another month. Good planning, me! Gives plenty of time to share with collaborator for editing/comments.

good, productive feminism explains that gender isn't innate and the patriarchy can be deconstructed; essentially telling young women that all men are creeps and predators and will never change is actually just weirdly reactionary and purposeless

This. Every time you see a "successful" trans person, know we are just one transphobe away from losing everything. This is one reason why it is important for allies to actually ally when we're not around -- transphobes should know their views aren't acceptable to anyone.

Well, it's a talk that we've been asked to do on a project that the end output of is images, so it's very image heavy, although thankfully lots of them are 'here's before - here's after' that take 10 seconds to wheech through

Putting together a joint presentation and my collaborator has supplied over 60 images just for their part. It's a 1 hour presentation so this is going to be an...experience.

It's a snip from another platform. A man sleeps while an huge crab looms over him. Captions say "Don't worry you are not alone" and "We've hired a crab to watch over you". The comment on the post is "Crab Museum takes no responsibility for it smashing your flat to bits in search of tidbits of algae, whale flesh, or a simple good time. Frankly, we're as baffled as you are.

A Michael Jackson movie that doesn’t even ALLUDE to him being accused of raping children is such a strange big budget project. It’s weird that it even exists. It would be like making Titanic and cutting before the iceberg. What a ridiculous display.

This one isn't a language school (dear god, the herds of youths with the matching backpacks!) and is students 21-15 but I still feel like if you're making money from having them, then you shouldn't be looking for free entertainment at the expense of the host's time.

The Spanish Flu likely originated in Kansas during WWI, and then hopped on US troop carriers to Europe and, from there, to the rest of the world.

It was called the Spanish Flu because the USA and other belligerents censored information about it, while neutral Spain actively reported on its spread.

Do they have a room dedicated to hosing down children?

Yeah, definitely odd! But either way it's not an appropriate use of my time to give a tour when I'm effectively publicly funded and they'd be making a profit from me giving my time.

Oh yes: just reread the email and it says 'visiting students' in it so I'm 99% certain that's definitely in 'run summer courses and gouge international students' territory.

I mean, I'm not giving them a tour regardless as students are not an effective use of my time, but it'd be an even bigger 'no' if they're making money out of them (beyond normal student things). It's a very specific area and the element of 'lets go for a tour!' screams 'make it worth the money'.

Finland ends homelessness and provides shelter for all in need - scoop.me In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Why? The country applies the "Housing First" concept agains homelessness.

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back to a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

IT SAVES PUBLIC MONEY to house people.

So, if you were a university and you were running a summer school with outings/visits, it would be reasonable for me to assume that it's a moneymaking enterprise while the university isn't in a teaching term, right?

A reminder that no matter how qualified and good at your job you are, as a woman you are always at risk of being sidelined for some shitty man who has none of your qualities but is part of the old boys' network

I was in a Chinese takeaway/restaurant on Saturday and overheard a very random "pork scratchings" dropped into the middle of discussion at a nearby table. I do love a completely out of context English phrase in other languages - allows for so many options for explanation!
