Landmark Gas Works Park Threatened

The City of Seattle recently issued a permit for partial demolition of historic features on the iconic towers at Gas Works Park, a designated Seattle landmark and National Register of Historic Places-listed public gathering place.

The City fast-tracked permitting, making an end run around the Landmarks Preservation Board and the Certificate of Approval process for landmarks.

Is this Seattle’s own East Wing? How did this happen? Learn more in our piece here.

And if you care about what is happening at Gas Works Park, take action! City leaders need to hear from you, and they need to know it’s not OK to treat Gas Works Park and other public landmarks as disposable impediments. Details on whom to contact are near the end of our write-up.

Make your voice heard today! Thank you!

Historic Seattle is really calling the planned removal of ladders and pipes from the structures at Gas Works Park - something being done to ensure no additional people lose their lives after three deaths already - "Seattle's own East Wing."

Seattle Stalls Out on Zero Road Death Push. Would an Audit Help? Despite committing to eliminate deaths and serious injuries on city roadways by 2030, the numbers in Seattle aren't declining. Though a recent call for a performance audit has attracted attention, it will ultimately fall to Katie Wilson to orient SDOT toward safety.

Great day with some incredible students from Harshman MS slowing down drivers in front of their school- murals, delineators, and most importantly, water barriers to help enforce this crash diet on East 10th Street!

Thanks to @clifmars.com for making sure we all stayed safe by flagging traffic!

“During the 2022 men’s World Cup in Qatar, official ticket-holders received free access to Doha’s metro system throughout the tournament. Similarly, at the 2024 European Championship in Germany, match ticket holders also had access to free public transport on game day in host cities.”

wild that tourists to nyc don’t know the public transit rules
> let people out before going in
> stay on the right
> offer sacrifice to the gods before embarking in hopes of safe passage
> use exact change when paying the troll that lives under the bridge (doesn’t take omny)

Here’s one that’s really important to understand and remember, especially if you work in a city hall — the best transportation plan is a great land-use plan. #UrbanTruth

It was pretty incredible how quickly pedestrian gates were funded but right-sizing this road might not actually happen in our lifetimes.

I love Amtrak, but almost every time I get on a train, man: Complete disorder in the boarding line; automated announcements incapable of saying basic words like "Acela"; no assignments, forcing everyone to fight for a seat; broken seats; conductors yelling to assure us "we know what we're doing"...
