And we need executives in the nonprofit world to step up and go public.
Taking millions in grant money and watching what is happening to some of their clients due to Metro's political goals & remaining quiet is not OK!
Kudos to the ones who went to the Mayor in the past. But it's not enough.
The unethical behavior causing harm to people exp. homelessness continues to pile up.
To fix this, we need new leadership at OHS and whoever is supposed to provide oversight and accountability in the Mayor's Office needs to be replaced as well since the OHS director reports to the Mayor directly.
Nashville's homelessness-to-housing system is broken.
Metro presents constantly at national conferences how great Nashville is doing. I doubt they include in those presentations some of these housing loss experiences that create unnecessary harm & additional barriers.
Oregon tried giving homeless youth $1,000 a month with no strings attached. Here’s what happened - OregonLive.com

While this is happening here in Nashville, OHS is spending tax payer dollars to travel to conferences and give presentations none of us have seen or heard here locally.
This is disrespectful to say the least! The community - and
OHS staff - deserve better than this kind of leadership.
I am livid!
The Office of Homeless Services' response to a direct question I posed today in a public meeting was disappointing and showed a deep disrespect to our community's nonprofits.
Most of us in this room knew the answer was avoiding truth and transparency!

Here are two hidden gems:
The cat cafe - really Crossroads Cafe - on Buchanan!
And
Paradeisos Cafe on West End across from Centennial Park.
They are both wonderful and you're supporting social enterprises. Learn about their causes (homelessness: youth/young adults, outdoor/chronic, and pets).
The other day, someone quoted back to me something I had written in The Contributor. I was flattered but also realized the 2-part column about the nonprofit industrial complex hit a chord.
Several people reached out to me to meet and discuss, which helps me learn more.
That's why I am reposting it.
Today's @citycastnash.bsky.social stirred up some memories.

Criminalizing homelessness does not work. If it did, (for better or worse) there would be no homelessness crisis.
We know what works: Housing subsidies plus support services.
BTW: If we can fund billion-dollar wars on the whim of one individual, then the US has the money to house its own citizens!
