Thank you for your reply! But please don't say "your study", I really didn't like their conclusions 😂 It was just sent to me by a carnivore colleague

I read a study published less than a month ago that said almost the opposite (doi:10.1001/jamanetworkopen.2026.6489). How do you explain this? I'm not very familiar with the medical literature

We have a pretty good understanding of the differences between GHG emission estimates, but when it comes to some sectors (e.g., land), estimates seem all over the place!

Why is this? @wflamb.bsky.social has you covered...

Only half of calories produced on croplands are available for human consumption, study finds Study: 1/2 of the calories produced on croplands are unavailable for human consumption

Of all human activities, few have as big an impact on the planet as agriculture. Globally, the agri-food system—everything that’s produced & consumed, from farm to fork to landfill—is the largest consumer of water & user of land, and one of the largest GHG emitters: drawdown.org/news/only-ha... >>

More equable past and future warm climates in unprecedented high-resolution simulations Understanding Earth’s past warm climates is crucial for improving climate modeling and future projections. We revisit the early Eocene "Equable Climate Problem", the longstanding mismatch between prox...

No shit no kidding

Models have a circulation problem (oceans + atmosphere) which are able to massively supercharge changes or extreme events like the North American heatwave or the non-linear expansion of marine heatwaves

I just resigned from NASA. It breaks my heart to leave, but I’ve become convinced the best path forward is to do the best science I can, and that can’t be here anymore. I’m still in love with the promise of those four magic letters. Ad astra per aspera, and remember: Earth is the only good planet.

His Harvard Lab Was Thriving. Then Came the Cuts.

This article tells the story of what researchers have been going through over the past 14 months. As funding dries up, professors struggle to keep people employed and to keep doing the work.

The Trump Administration is destroying so much science in this country.

Zack Polanski says Greens would ditch GDP targets and focus on wellbeing instead Leader uses first major economic speech to prioritise public services and reduction of inequality over growth A government led by the Green party would not set targets for GDP growth but would instead focus on people’s mental health, social cohesion and community welfare, Zack Polanski has said in a major speech to set out his plans for the economy. In his first policy address since taking over as leader of the Greens in England and Wales six months ago, Polanski condemned what he called “rip-off Britain”, where a minority of asset owners benefited at the expense of people obliged to pay unaffordable sums for housing and other basics. It’s truly depressing to realize the number of horrendous things the Trump administration has done. Each week there’s a new one, and the constant flood makes people forget the last.

Watch this for a reminder about USAID.

Far more than just an office building, NSF NCAR Mesa Lab is an iconic and purpose-built facility designed specifically for the study of atmospheric science. Its position at the physical interface of the Rocky Mountain foothills and the Great Plains is a deliberate reflection of its mission, serving as a visible symbol—in an iconically American setting—of the federal government's enduring commitment to science in service of society. For many in the field, including myself, the Mesa Lab holds singular importance as a focal gathering point for the global atmospheric science community. My own early career exposure to weather and Earth system modeling, in fact, occurred within these walls, and I have long felt that the facility’s architecture and location inspire a necessary sense of awe regarding the atmosphere’s complexity a

I am writing to provide a formal response to the Request for Information (RFI) regarding the proposed restructuring of the NSF National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and its critical weather science infrastructure contained within the January 23, 2026 Dear Colleague Letter (DCL) entitled “NSF Intent to Restructure Critical Weather Infrastructure.” I submit these comments in my professional capacity as an atmospheric research scientist within the University of California, where my research focuses on the physics and dynamics of atmospheric processes related to extreme weather events and their role in shifting natural hazard and disaster risk.

My perspective is informed by a public-sector career dedicated to bridging the gap between fundamental atmospheric research and real-world application in an academic context, with a particular focus on understanding and mitigating

I just submitted my letter to NSF responding to its proposal to dismantle the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). I argue that doing so would be an astonishing and avoidable misstep, and that federal support for the institution should in fact be *increased.* [1/4]

There's one thing most of us can do, especially in the Global North, to address the polycrisis: shift to a plant-based or plant-rich diet. Prof Johan Rockström, shown speaking in the post below, explains here why it's so important and brings many benefits: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Scientists thought they understood global warming. Then the past three years happened. The fastest warming period since 1880 occurred in the past 30 years, according to a Washington Post analysis of NASA data.

We don't know what's happening, but there's no good news here. As long as we keep burning fossil fuels, the world will continue to become more dangerous and chaotic.

The UK is a rich country built on mass poverty Record levels of very deep poverty expose the true cost of austerity, inflation and the concentration of power at the top.

Politicians tell us they can fix poverty with economic growth, or labour market reforms, or easy money.

But all of these fixes just obscure the fact that the poverty of those at the bottom is a direct consequence of the wealth of those at the top. graceblakeley.substack.com/p/the-uk-is-...
