Later still we know a pin requires 2 shoulder blades on the mat, and it doesn't have to be from a throw.
Later in regional British Isles folk styles of wrestling that predate Catch (such as Cornish wrestling), a pin referred to a shoulder blade or a hip bone. In styles where you could end a match by throw, if for example 3 or more 'pins' made contact with the ground from a throw, the match was won.
Alright... So a couple of origins. Bearing in mind Old English was formatively a Germanic language from the invading Saxon, Angle & Jute tribes, and later the Danish & Norwegian 'vikings', the word 'Pine' (not pronounced like the tree) translates as 'To Torture' or 'To Torment'. #wrestling

I'm not sure I've heard that. But that's not the etymology of 'pin' in wrestling. It predates Catch, going back to the regional folk styles of the British Isles.
