Eyewitness video from the scene of today's ICE shooting in California appears to (you guessed it) contradict officials' claims that the man "weaponized" his vehicle. The car is reversing and the agents appear to be well clear of it.
Anything you hear from any ICE mercenary, FBI agent, DHS agent, Department of Justice stooge, or representative of the federal government—it's a safe bet that it is a lie. That includes sworn statements delivered under oath.
Remember that from here on. Whatever they say, it's probably a lie.
Has anyone asked Pope Leo what he thinks about Daredevil? He’s the first pope who might plausibly have Daredevil opinions
I'm excited to announce that that I will be part of the Toronto Public Library's On Civil Society series! I will be in conversation about Radical Antiquity, which will later air as part of CBC's Ideas radio show.

It's a fantastic book about labour stoppage and agency in Roman antiquity!
Thanks so much - I'll be doing a few talks around town in early May, if you want to come by and say hi!
The federal government is explicitly arguing that "wearing black clothes" at a noise demonstration is "enough to convict the eight defendants accused of material support" for terrorism. The outcome of this trial cold be catastrophic.
Thanks so much! Glad to see a fellow Canadian listening to it!

Lol, fair points!
Porco Rosso is a far better pirate movie than any of those!
what do you do when your desired outcome (banning gender-affirming care) goes against the medical consensus? easy: simply exclude 97% of the relevant medical studies from your review...
haha, like the ghost of Spartacus (or Diogenes), I'm to be found everywhere!
Haha, hope you enjoy it!
That means a lot, Xabier! It's always easy to dismiss things as "utopian," "unrealistic," or whatever the case may be. Here's hoping that we acknowledge human history has involved a lot more radical politics than people usually suppose!
Glad you enjoyed it! I have to say that Margaret was a very easy person to talk to!
Thanks so much, Xabier! Glad to hear you enjoyed the book!
Hope you enjoy it!
haha, 40 makes you ancient these days!
Part 2!
Good thing some US colleges are closing their Religious Studies departments—definitively not “useful” at all or an area of expertise that might be relevant for understanding our present…
Join us next week as we continue our conversation on Program Restructuring...

I have seen a lot of cursed stuff in my time in academia but this is among the *most* cursed.
Grammarly is generating miniature LLMs based on academic work so that users can have their writing ‘reviewed’ by experts like David Abulafia, who died less than two months ago.
Ah, that means so much! You may also want to check out Sarah Bond's excellent book "Strike!" which is about labour stoppage in Roman antiquity! There's still lots of research to be done on these things.
I had a great time chatting with @margaret.bsky.social about the book! I'm guessing Part Two of the interview will drop later this week!
New Cool People Who Did Cool Stuff 📖
Margaret interviews ancient historian @cbzeichmann.bsky.social about all the wild stuff happening in the ancient world and confirms her guesses about Spartacus and the Third Servile War
