Just because you may be in a position where you have to cover these games, it doesn’t mean you can’t make people aware of the boycott against Microsoft called for by BDS. Be constructive and thoughtful in your criticism, and help people understand that by purchasing an Xbox-published game, or by subscribing to Game Pass, they are supporting a company that is complicit in the genocide against the Palestinian people.

Literally translating the way the Japanese language uses quotation brackets makes everything sound sarcastic in English.

While the people at Capcom finalized the text, the initial translation was done by an agency that failed to credit the people who did the actual work for them. Thankfully, at least one of the translators has since been able to speak a little bit about his work on the game. #TranslatorsintheCredits

Real talk, 10 years ago, I didn't even know lettering was a job (and an artform), let alone how important good lettering is in comics.
Lettering is one of those aspects of localization that is easy to forget about if it's good, but bad lettering can completely ruin your immersion.
A bunch of artists will lose work, the flow and immersion for the reader is ruined, the mangaka's vision is butchered...and they'll probably raise the price on consumers anyway.
but at least a corporation made more money 😀

The best leaders in this industry aren’t those who have a hyper-detailed, one-man-show vision of their project. They don’t minimise or claim the work that their teammates do. They are the ones who are excited about what others can bring to the dynamic. Who hold the vision, rather than own it.
Very worth a read. Confirms what we've both been noticing about *everything* for a very long time. And we remember when most things were well-made.
The YKK zippers thing is legit btw, they're genuinely so much better, and I've been using that knowledge for *years* to avoid cheap stuff.

54% - That's the percentage of translators (out of 235 respondents) who only receive minimal or no reference material whatsoever for the games they're working on.
Remember that figure next time you read a translation that sounds off in context!
It's not unheard of for older translators to disclose their uncredited work years after the fact, especially once they've gained enough fame to feel secure doing so. But that's not always the case, and either way it's shame to see translators lose out on the in-game credits they deserve.
The fact that the two entries in the article celebrate memorable lines without any mention of typos or errors--and ranks both entries above other highly regarded games like FF14 and FF16--stands as a testament to the lasting impact his work had on so many people.
